Internet Users and the Cloud: What Do People Really Know? (Infographic)

alt="Internet Users and the Cloud: What Do People Really Know? (Infographic)" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/handling-cloud-servers-500x320_c.jpg" />

style="text-align: center;">class="border aligncenter" src="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/images/2012/1031-1.jpg" alt="Cloud Hosting Infographic" width="750" height="3355" />

A look at this infographic on Internet trends among American adults underscores an interesting and perhaps unexpected fact about Internet users.

While the mass majority uses the cloud, most are unaware that they are employing cloud hosting networks. This infographic highlights the findings of two surveys of American Internet users, including the demographics of Internet users, their online activities, and how perceptions of cloud computing match actual use. It underscores a fascinating division between href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/blog/web-hosting-guides/shared-vps-dedicated-cloud-hosting/" target="_blank">what people know about the cloud and how much of their online activities utilize the cloud.

51% Survey Respondents Believed That Stormy Weather Could Interfere Cloud Computing

The majority of American adults use the Internet to look something up on a search engine (91 percent), send or receive an email (91 percent), look up a hobby or interest (84 percent) or search for maps or driving directions (84 percent). An Internet user is also likely to check up-to-date weather forecasts on his or her device (81 percent), do online banking (61 percent) or upload photos for sharing (46 percent). Though many use these online services, most remain unaware that these online processes run on various cloud computing platforms – everything from online banking, shopping and photo sharing to the use of social networks and playing online games. In fact, 51 percent of respondents believed that stormy weather could interfere with cloud computing, perhaps envisioning it as an antenna that sways in the wind and rain rather than an elastic host service which uses the Internet.

The infographic reveals that low education levels are not the likely reason for this confusion, as the higher level of education one has achieved may lead to higher Internet use but does not lead to greater Internet understanding. For instance, only 61 percent of those surveyed without a high school diploma used the Internet regularly, while 80 percent of high school graduates and 97 percent of college graduates used the Internet regularly, though the majority could not articulate the connection between the cloud and the Internet.

Why People Can’t Get It?

The question remains why cloud computing and cloud hosting is a foreign concept for many when it is almost universally used. The answer can be found in the complexity of cloud computing itself and its varying definitions, as well as missing means of public education on the issue. For instance, there are numerous types of public cloud computing (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, to name a few) as well as various service models. Because of the varied uses of the cloud, from email to gaming and file sharing, it is difficult to come up with a definition which is both explanatory and clear and which encompasses all of the characteristics of cloud activity. Combining this with the vocabulary of servers, network attached storage and virtualization is more likely to lead to confusion than understanding.

Notwithstanding the barriers to understanding, this infographic highlights that even if people don’t understand the details of cloud hosting, they are certainly aware of its growing importance. With mobile devices like cell phones, laptop computers and tablet PCs on the rise, and stationary items such as the desktop on the decline, the mobility of information is becoming increasingly prized, and it is cloud hosting services which allow for the easy movement of information for daily Internet users.

[Infographic] A Look Back At The Major Events In Web Marketing 2012

alt="[Infographic] A Look Back At The Major Events In Web Marketing 2012" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/default-image-500x308_c.jpg" />

Change is the only constant in our universe that doesn’t change. And In the world of web marketing, the changes come fast (and harsh, if you are not adapting quick enough). Looking back on 2012, it’s amazing how much has happened – From Google+ to Pinterest, and to Panda/Penguin updates, and to the acquisition of Instagram, there has been a whirlwind of movement.

For WHSR, this year was quite different from those in the recent past. Google’s Penguin Update hit us pretty hard and 2012 was the toughest year in the site’s history. I had to lay off all of my regular writers in order to keep the book balance and, I’m just glad that things are improving finally this month.

Major Events In Web Marketing 2012

I’ve put together a list of 30 important marketing moments in 2012 – some are my favorites, and some gave me the scariest nightmares in my life – and had Saquib (a freelance designer) to make this infographic.

Share Infographic in larger view href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/images/2013/lookback2012.jpg" target="_blank">here, share it with this convenient href="#share">HTML code or href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/images/2013/lookback2012.pdf" target="_blank">.pdf version here.

Now, let’s take a minute to celebrate these moments, and look forward to a better year in 2013!

Your Options in Web Hosting

style="font-family: Roboto, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">Generally speaking, there are four different types of web hosting: Shared, Virtual Private Server (VPS), Dedicated, and Cloud Hosting. While all types of hosting servers will act as a storage centre for your web content (html files, videos, audios, images, apps, databases, etc), these hosting options differ in the amount of storage capacity, control, technical knowledge requirement, server speed, and reliability; and have it very own pros and cons.

style="line-height: 1.5em;">Shared Hosting

When a website is hosted on a shared hosting, the site is placed on the same server as many other sites, ranging from a few to hundreds or thousands. Typically, all domains may share a common pool of server resources, such as RAM and the CPU. As cost is extremely low, most websites with moderate traffic levels running standard software are hosted on this type of server. Shared hosting is also widely accepted as the entry level option as it requires minimum technical knowledge.

Note: For the total newbies, you might want to check out our href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/web-hosting-beginner-guide/">Web Hosting 101 e-Course here.

Virtual Private Server (VPS) Hosting

style="line-height: 1.5em;">In VPS hosting, every website is hosted on a virtual private server on a more powerful hardware. A physical machine is divided into several virtual compartments, and server software is set up on them separately, making each unit capable of functioning independently. Thus, though other websites may be hosted on the same physical system, yours would be the only website(s) hosted in the virtual compartment allocated to you, and other websites on the machine won’t affect the performance of yours. That would mean you get exactly the same system resources you pay for.

Note: To learn more about VPS hosting (how it works, how to choose, pros vs cons, etc), href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/vps-hosting-guide/">please read our latest VPS Hosting Guide here.

Dedicated Hosting

A dedicated server offers the maximum control over the web server your website is stored on – You exclusively rent an entire server. Your website(s) is the only website stored on the server.

Cloud Hosting

Cloud hosting offers nearly unlimited ability to handle high traffic or traffic spikes. Here’s how it works: A team of servers (called a cloud) work together to host a group of websites. This allows multiple computers to work together to handle high traffic levels or spikes for any particular website.

How to choose?

To href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/choose-the-right-web-hosting/">choose the right web host, you have to first understand your own needs. Let’s forget about those list of top 10 hosting services for a while and think thoroughly about your very own needs.

  • What kind of website are you building?
  • Do you need Windows applications?
  • Do you need a special version of software (ie. PHP)?
  • Does your website need special software?
  • How big (or small) can the web traffic volume go?
  • Do you plan to host multiple websites on the same hosting account?
  • Is security a primary concern?
  • Do you need a dedicated IP for your site?
  • Is private SSL certificates needed?
  • How fast do you need the hosting server to be?
  • Do you need server root access?
  • Do you need to install your own software and application?

These are some of the basic questions to be answered. Have a plan with your website and try figure out what will happens next for the next 12 months.

For newbies, the general basic rule is to always start small with a good shared hosting account. A shared hosting account is cheap, easy to maintain, and sufficient for most new sites. Plus, you can always upgrade to VPS or dedicated hosting in the later stage when your site grows bigger.

alt="[Infographic] 7 Easy Ways to Recycle Your Blogposts" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/recycle-blog-500x255_c.jpg" />

Recycling your blogpost is not about being lazy and spinning your old content.

It’s about re-visiting a topic that matters with added value and to continue the dialogue. Perhaps you previously wrote a blog post about a timely topic – odds are that there are more recent developments on that topic – those developments are likely of interest to your audience. Or maybe the information or recommendation on a previous post has changed. Or you wrote a high-traffic post that has had tons of traffic and visitor comments and you wish to href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/blog/blogging-tips/how-to-magnetize-your-blog-and-build-your-readership/">continue on that momentum.

There are plenty of reasons to turn that old, original content into something new.

The benefits of recycling old content

In href="http://blog.bufferapp.com/repurposing-content-guide">The Ultimate Guide to Repurposing Contentstyle="text-decoration: underline;">, Kevan Lee of Bufferapp listed the following benefits in recycling old content.

  • Save time in content-creation process and focus more in marketing – “Create Less, Promote More” for the win.
  • Generate additional opportunities to target desired keywords and get an SEO boost.
  • Reach new audience via recycling your old content for different mediums (think multi-channel marketing).
  • Reinforce your message via repetition.

How to recycle your old blogposts

In the following infographic I have listed 7 different ways to recycle your old blog content.

The following infographic is created based on my previous guide in href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/choose-the-right-web-hosting/">Choosing the Right Web Host. It’s extremely long and heavy (it’s sort of an ultimate guide) but if you are looking for a web host for the first time it should be a good help.

Selecting a web host an important – and at times, daunting – task. Beyond finding which web hosts are out there, it’s a matter of digging through different plans, comparing inclusions, and checking customer reviews.

In short, asking the right questions.

By getting the answers to these 15 questions in the following infographic, you should get a clear picture of what you need, you will receive, what the provider offers long term, how they treat their customers, and if they are an organization you can trust and truly want to work with.

[Infographic] InMotion Hosting Guide: Pros and Cons, Ratings, & Special Discounts

alt="[Infographic] InMotion Hosting Guide: Pros and Cons, Ratings, & Special Discounts" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/inmotion-hosting-preview-500x238_c.jpg" />

The following infographic is created based on my href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/hosting-review/inmotion-hosting/">InMotion Hosting review (updated April 27th, 2015).

InMotion Hosting, The Company

Based in both Carlifonia and Virginia, InMotion Hosting has been around for more than a decade (established in year 2001).

InMotion Hosting offers a wide range of web hosting services (shared/vps/dedicated) in dozen of different packages. The company is best known with its superior customer service (the company is BBB Accredited since 23/6/2003 and scores A+ with BBB Busines Review at time of writing) and is rated as one of the top hosting providers by many well-known hosting review sites. As such, experienced webmasters/bloggers normally regard InMotion as the web host for businesses and pro users – you know, people who do not mind paying a little extra for better reliability and after-sales supports.

In 2009, I got a free Launch account from InMotion Hosting for review purpose. I got hooked instantly and turned into a loyal customer. Today, I pay InMotion Hosting about ,000 yearly to host all my important sites. This site (href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/" target="_blank">WebHostingSecretRevealed.net), for example, is hosted on InMotion VPS Hosting (VPS-2000) – you can verify this by searching my WhoIs info.

P/S: Special Discount

Before we dive into the infographic, let’s talk discount. FYI, most hosting companies give out special discount for top sites and affiliates (so that people promote them and share the offers with their readers). WHSR is one of the the lucky ones who got that discount and this means YOU get to save some money.

For InMotion’s Business Class Hosting, the original price is .99/9.99/15.99 per month for Launch, Power, and Pro Plan respectively. If you href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/go/inmotion-business" target="_blank">order via our special discount link, you’ll get to save up to 56% – after discount price at .49/4.49/13.99 per month. Take it as my thank you note for visiting my site ;)

And now, to the infographic…

The infographic below is created based on my recent-updated BlueHost review.

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of reviews of BlueHost hosting on Internet. Most of these reviews talk about the same stuffs – unlimited hosting features, free domain for first year, and the almighty Anytime-Money-Back-Guarantee. Sure, those facts are important to know as a consumer but… well I am not going to beat the dead horse again. If you are looking for the real insider’s info (real user feedbacks, uptime records, untold secrets, and user reviews from an existing BlueHost customer for almost 10 years!) – href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/hosting-review/bluehost/">READ MY REVIEW.

About BlueHost – The Company

BlueHost was started by Matt Heaton who started his first computer hardware business at age of 21. In Nov 2010, the company was sold to Endurance International Group, a NASDAQ-listed company who own dozens of other hosting brands including FatCow, EasyCGI, iPage, HostClear, Globat, JustHost, Hostgator, and so on. In June 2011, Matt Heaton resigned his role as the company CEO and assigned himself to work as a system architect within the company.

Today, BlueHost stands as one of the largest shared hosting providers in the industry. The web host  powers more than 2,000,000 websites and sends data to 196 countries (statistics as in Dec 2012) from their datacenter at Provo, Utah. The once shared-hosting-only provider is now offering all four levels of web hosting services – shared, VPS, reseller, and dedicated hosting.

[Infographic] The Computer Evolution

alt="[Infographic] The Computer Evolution" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/evo-IT-500x333_t.jpg" />

Computers have now been in existence for more than 70 years. And of course, their influence and widespread has grown dramatically. But how have they gotten to their place of prominence and influence in our lives?

style="text-align: center;">class="wp-image-9682 size-full" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Evolution-of-IT.jpg" alt="Evolution of IT/Computer" width="648" height="4061" />

1941: Zuse Z3, the first programmable computer

The first programmable computer, the Zuse Z3, was created in 1941, and is nothing like a computer today in terms of cost, capability, size and usability. Much of the development of computer technology of the first 50 years was driven by military and governmental agencies. ARPANET was created for the Department of Defense and drove much of the development of the internet. Fortunately, universities were also driving the technology and people in this realm helped develop email and online gaming.

1970: ARPANET created for Department of Defense

After getting through infancy, private companies and think tanks started to help innovate new technologies. The Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) was founded by Xerox in the 70’s and were integral in the development of many of the technologies we use today, including items like laser printers, the what-you-see-is-what-you-get text editor, bitmap graphics, and the graphical user interface that we are so familiar with today.

1985: Symbolics.com – first domain registered

As the personal computer market developed, the greater potential for profitability helped computer companies justify more budgets for research and development, which has helped created a wave of incremental change that has compounded into the significant change we see today with incredible advances in storage capacity and size to power ratios. And much of this market has been shaped because of how software companies have taken the power computers are capable of and harnessing this into ways to improve our lives and the work we do.

Today and beyond

The latest disruptive innovation has been the href="http://dell.to/1iiHRTP">advancement of cloud computing and href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/blog/web-hosting-guides/a-brief-on-cloud-hosting/">what it allows.

While we already have tiny little computers in our pockets that let us access an ungraspable amount of information, cloud-based services are moving processes away from the device while increasing functionality. And while your smartphone might not get any smaller, as you currently still use a reasonably sized screen to interact, the cloud can enable embeddable technology and devices, or whatever we have yet to imagine.

style="color: #4f4f4f;">Everyone seems to have a blog these days – in fact, as of June, 2014, there were more than style="color: #0882c4;" href="http://wordpress.com/stats/posting/">42.5 million blog postsstyle="color: #4f4f4f;"> published on WordPress.com alone. That said, to make your blog stand out from the crowd, your posts must be more than just present; they need to be great and consist of these vital elements.

class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-10385" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Good-To-Great-Infographic-edit-750x3208.png" alt="Good-To-Great-Infographic-edit" width="750" height="3208" srcset="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Good-To-Great-Infographic-edit-750x3208.png 750w, http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Good-To-Great-Infographic-edit-70x300.png 70w, http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Good-To-Great-Infographic-edit.png 968w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" />

Infographic Note: 7 Must Have Elements of A Great Blog Post

1. Write eye-catching titles and headlines

Before anyone reads the actual context of your post, they are going to see your headline first. Bloggers should keep a set of good headline templates for brainstorming and writing reference.

2. Open with a bang

If your blog visitors get to read your first 2 – 3 sentences, they are more likely to read your entire article.

3. Use Engaging Images

Articles with images attract more back links and views.

4. Proper post segmentation

Proper page segmentation with sub headlines, bullet points, images, tables, quotes, and charts allows people to scan and read your post easily.

5. Social Media Network Friendly

When people see something they like, they like to share it with friends – making this easy for them to do will help you gain more blog traffic from social media networks. Also, interact with your readers and encourage them to share your post (use call-to-action)  on social media can greatly increase your blog traffics.

6. Have your own voice

Your voice is what sells your blog and makes it your own. Never be too shy to show your personality and take your stance against criticism . After all, controversial post often get more links and social network attentions.

7. Use Call-to-action (CTA)

Make sure that every blog post has specific objectives (ie. to boost social shares or email signups) for you and direct your readers to do what you want them to do via CTA. A/B test to optimize your CTA.

[Infographic] Total VPS Hosting Guide

alt="[Infographic] Total VPS Hosting Guide" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/vps-hosting-thumbnail-500x293_c.jpg" />

Just in case you have no time for our href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/vps-hosting-guide/">Total VPS Hosting Guide, the following infographic will give you a quick overview on things you need to know.

Keep in mind that most websites launched using a shared hosting plan. It makes sense since a shared web host is the most budget friendly and requires the least technical knowledge and ability to get started and make it work. However as your sites grow, you will need more server resources, better hosting flexibility, as well as enhanced security features. That’s when VPS Hosting come into play.

As you look to make your choice and href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/blog/web-hosting-guides/switching-web-host/">switch web host, there are some general factors to take into consideration.

  • Operating system (Windows vs Linux) Are you running any ASP and .ASP program?
  • Manager or unmanaged – Do you have the time and knowledge to monitor and manage everything?
  • Customer support –  Are you comfortable with the support staffs?
  • Server features, such as server RAM, CPU power, bandwidth, scalability, and IP addresses – Are you happy with them?

I hope this will be a good help for anyone who are considering a VPS web host. HTML embedding code for this infographic is located at the bottom; if you have questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.
