alt="How To Use My Coupon Code To Save 25% On Your Hostgator Bill" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/hostgator-500x220_c.jpg" />

First thing first, the coupon code is “style="color: #cc3300;">style="text-decoration: underline;">WHSR25Discount” (without quotes). Copy and paste it into a notepad, wordpad, or even jot it down on a piece of writing paper. You’ll save 25% (best discount in the market) when ordering Hostgator using this code.

1. Input The Coupon Code at ‘Step 1 Page’

class="border" alt="Using Coupon Code at Hostgator" src="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/images/2011/0303-1.jpg" width="750" />

Visit Hostgator’s website, select your desired hosting package. After you click ‘Order’, you will be directed to the page titled ‘Step 1: CHoose a Domain’ where you will need to (well?) choose a domain . There is a small input box at the bottom of the page asking you to ‘Enter A Coupon Code’, simply type in ‘WHSR25Discount’ as shown in the figure above and click ‘Continue To Step 2’.

2. DONE!

class="border" alt="Using Coupon Code at Hostgator" src="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/images/2011/0303-2.jpg" width="750" />

If the code is used correctly, the discounted price tag will be shown on your next page (Step 2: Billing Information). style="text-decoration: underline;">Take note of the the price changes under billing cycle. You should see words like ‘25.00 Percent OFF!’ in the input field (see image above).

And there, 25% mark down on your Hostgator hosting bill and you are done! Easy.

Updates: Hostgator Uptime Review

alt="Updates: Hostgator Uptime Review" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/hostgator-500x220_c.jpg" />

Following up on the href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/discount-freebies/web-hosting-coupons/hostgator-hosting-coupon/">Hostgator Coupon Code post, I am gonna show you something quick about the Gators in this blogpost. You might want to check out my href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/hosting-review/hostgator/">Hostgator Review to see what I think about them, in details; but in case you are sort of in a hurry, this short post should tell you everything you need to know about Hostgator.

Hostgator Uptime Review

Firstly, you need to know that this site, WebHostingSecretRevealed.com, is hosted at Hostgator since year 2009 and I’ve been tracking its uptime since the beginning (that’s how I review a hosting service after all).

Now, check out the graph below – it shows the uptime record of WHSR for the past 14 months.

class="border" alt="WHSR uptime record at Hostgator" src="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/images/2011/0304-1.jpg" width="750" height="978" />

Translation Please…

I am tracking my site’s uptime using PingDom and the graph is showing WHSR’s uptime record from January 1, 2010 till Febuary 28, 2011. Saw the flat green line? That’s the indicating line representing WHSR’s uptime it is marking on the 100% point. That’s right, WHSR is ‘up and running’ (almost) 24/7 just like this dead-flat line.

In case you wonder, Hostgator scored a 99.96% server uptime for the past 14 months with 3 hours and 44 minutes within this period, and the number of down-times is 33x.

If you have been tracking (and reading) website uptime regularly, you should understand that this is a S-U-P-E-R-B result for a shared-hosted website. I mean, these guys might be a little more expensive than the rest but hey, 99.96% uptime on a shared server! Isn’t that something remarkable and worth paying extra for? By the way, if you look close enough, you are going to see a small ‘valley’ in the middle (that’s 07/19/2010 FYI) and that’s the only unplanned downtime I had with Hostgator in 14 months.

So… there goes my updates on Hostgator’s recent performance – I hope it helps. For full-length evaluation on Hostgator hosting service, check out my href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/hosting-review/hostgator/">Hostgator Review.

Compare Hostgator Hatching, Baby, and Business Hosting Plan

alt="Compare Hostgator Hatching, Baby, and Business Hosting Plan" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/hostgator-hosting-plans-500x163_c.jpg" />

Unlike many other hosting companies, Hostgator provides a wide range of web hosting services (shared, dedicated, VPS, reseller hosting) in many different packages (Hatchling, Baby, Business Plan, etc). This often creates confusion and I receive inquiry emails about this regularly.

In case you are one of them who needs clarification, this article explains (and compares) the distinctions between Hostgator shared hosting plans.

Hostgator Hatching, Baby, and Business Hosting Plan: What’s different? And which should you choose?

Hostgator Hatchling, Baby, and Business Plan in a quick view

Here’s a quick view on Hostgator Hatchling, Baby, and Business Plan. Figure below is the print screen from Hostgator website. Not much different, eh?

style="border: 0px;" alt="Hostgator Shared Hosting Services" src="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/images/2010/0306-2.jpg" width="750" border="0" />

Compare Hostgator Hatchling, Baby, and Business Plan

Well on a closer look (referring table below), you can see that the three plans are quite different and this means a detail inspection before making any purchase decision is in fact necessary. So let’s check in details on each options.

class="border" width="100%" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="2">bgcolor="#dddddd">Featuresalign="center" bgcolor="#dddddd" width="145">Hatchlingalign="center" bgcolor="#dddddd" width="145">Babyalign="center" bgcolor="#dddddd" width="145">BusinessBandwidthalign="center" width="145">Unlimitedalign="center" width="145">Unlimitedalign="center" width="145">UnlimitedDisk Spacealign="center" width="145">Unlimitedalign="center" width="145">Unlimitedalign="center" width="145">UnlimitedAddon Domainsalign="center" width="145">0align="center" width="145">Unlimitedalign="center" width="145">UnlimitedParked Domainsalign="center" width="145">0align="center" width="145">Unlimitedalign="center" width="145">UnlimitedToll-Free Numberalign="center" width="145">Noalign="center" width="145">Noalign="center" width="145">YesDedicated IPalign="center" width="145">Noalign="center" width="145">.00/moalign="center" width="145">YesPrivate SSLalign="center" width="145">Noalign="center" width="145">Noalign="center" width="145">YesAnonymous FTPalign="center" width="145">Noalign="center" width="145">Noalign="center" width="145">YesChilisoft ASPalign="center" width="145">Noalign="center" width="145">Noalign="center" width="145">YesPricing (12 mo)align="center" width="145">.95align="center" width="145">.95align="center" width="145">.95Pricing (24 mo)align="center" width="145">.95align="center" width="145">.95align="center" width="145">.95align="right">style="font-size: xx-small;">Ref: href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/hosting-review/hostgator/">Hostgator Shared Hosting Plans

When you should go with Hostgator Hatchling Plan?

Hatchling Plan is relative cheaper and it is the better option for those with only one website.

However, in long term the Hatchling Plan is not very practical and I do not recommend any webmasters who are serious with their website to stay long with it. Think about it – domain name is so cheap nowadays that its cost is nearly neglectable when compare with other website operation cost.  Do you think you will own only one domain for the rest of your time on Internet? Absolutely not! A new business idea, a forum for your hobby, a website for your family members, a charity website for the community, a personal blog – there are unlimited reasons for your second domains/websites.

In fact, why limit yourself in one or two domains? Most webmasters, myself included, own (and operate) dozens of domains/websites and we are still buying domain names regularly! So, take the Hatchling Plan as the starting point in your Internet venture but never stick too long with it. ;)

When you should go with Hostgator Baby Plan?

style="text-decoration: underline;">Answer: 99% of the time. The differences between Baby and Hatchling Plan is that Baby Plan is slightly more expensive and it allows unlimited addon domains; the main differences between Baby and Business Plan is that it doesn’t provide Toll Free Number, Anonymous FTP, and Chilisoft ASP*.

So unless these extra features are absolutely needed, there is no reason why you should pay extra every year for the Business Hosting Plan.

*Note: You can add private SSL and dedicated IP features to your Hostgator Baby Plan with a little extra cost.

When you should go with Hostgator Business Plan?

Hostgator Business Plan is at its best value when you need all the addon e-commerce features (toll free number, dedicated IP, ChiliSoft ASP, and private SSL). It is most suitable for (well?) medium-large business websites owners that process their own money transactions.

Do note that while I agreed Hostgator offers the Best Business Hosting, the Business Planis only recommended when you are going to use all those addon e-commerce. It’s not worth it to pay extra per year if you only need an extra dedicated IP address or the private SSL. These features can be bought (at /dedicated IP address/year) or substituted with other web services (go with PayPal to bypass the need of a private SSL).

Hostgator Shared Hosting Plan Upgrades

Another question I got frequently from the readers: Can I upgrade/downgrade my Hostgator plan from time to time?

The answer is absolutely yes. All upgrades with Hostgator (eg. Baby-to-Business, Shared-to-VPS, VPS-to-dedicated) are free of charge. All you need to pay is the prorated price after upgrades and you are done. On the other hand, downgrading to a lower level plan requires a processing fees (which I think is reasonable).

For those who thinks Hostgator is too expensive, I got the perfect answer for you, written by Randy, in href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/blog/hosting-updates-news/updates-hostgator-uptime-review/">this post:

It’s amazing, to me, what business owners call “expensive” when it comes to hosting. Are you kidding? About for your company’s web presence? They don’t seem to have a problem paying .50 for a cup of coffee? – Randy @ href="http://prop-14.com/">Prop14 Web Design

Not Everyone Is Giving The Best Discount In Hostgator!

Please also take note that not all promo codes are the same. Many will tell you that they have the best discount for you but in reality it’s not. I received this email from my reader Yusef not long ago and this shows how style="text-decoration: underline;">doing a little more homework will save you more money.

Feedback from Tarek Yusef / April 1st, 2011

I came across your reviews site and thought wth I’ll use your promo code, well I go to hostgator and go to buy their baby plan, Already in the promo code box there is a code it says ” Spring, You have already chosen our most valuable coupon” Which is a lie because their default is 20% off and yours is 25% off. And I would assume most people wouldn’t even bother using the codes of affiliates because hostgator say the most valuable coupon is already in the promo box, WTH ! I’m irritated because too much of this bs is happening and regular people are being taken advantage of. Anyways long story short I will be getting a plan with your code now so u should get credit. – Tarek Yusef @ href="http://internetconnections.org/">Internet Connections.

Well…. that’s all for this post. As always, in case you wish to learn all about Hostgator, here’s my href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/hosting-review/hostgator/">Hostgator review. The promo code again, is style="text-decoration: underline;">“WHSR25Discount”. Just a quick post about recent achievement of Hostgator Inc. Hostgator, one of the top rated hosting company in my list, href="http://www.inc.com/inc5000/2009/company-profile.html?id=200902390">ranks #239 on Inc. 5000 this year – lower than last year #21 ranking despite their stunning revenue growth.

Nearly 900% Revenue Growth at Hostgator

alt="" src="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/images/2009/0901-1.jpg" width="750" />

From year 2005 to 2008, Hostgator achieve nearly 900% growth in revenue. This means more and more website owners are switching to, or getting a href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/hosting-review/hostgator/">new hosting account at Hostgator. Also, despite job market shrinking across the United States, the company also created 100 positions for IT technicians and systems’ admin for the past one year.

Secret of Hostgator’s success

Recalling what we were told when asked about the secret of success last year (in href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/blog/featured-articles/10-questions-with-hostgator/">Hostgator interview):

Web hosting industry is competitive and yet HostGator ranked #21 on Inc. 5000* fastest growing companies in America. What’s the secret of the company success?

If Brent, myself, or anyone else at HostGator could pinpoint what exactly led to HostGator’s success, I think we would be tempted to quit our jobs and start writing books.

In all seriousness, I think HostGator has been successful because it has innovated in the industry while at the same time keeping to its roots as an honest web hosting company that strives to deliver personal service. This seems paradoxical, but if you think about it, it makes sense.

We were one of the first companies to offer free billing systems, one of the earliest companies to offer free web templates, one of the first companies to offer unlimited addon domains with shared hosting accounts, and one of the first companies in the industry to offer free SSL certificates and toll-free numbers with select plans.

At the same time, though, HostGator has maintained a fanatical commitment to honesty and fairness, Brent continues to be available to customers that ask for his help, and the company as a whole continues to be committed to be providing the best service possible.

Well, it seems their strategy of being honest and delivering personal service are working incredibly well. Congrats Gator folks, now go make it even better! ;)

(Customers are greedy, aren’t we?)

I love Hostgator. Anyone who spent long enough reading at this blog knew that I am a big Hostgator fans. And, there’s one extra reason to love the Gators more.

Windows Hosting Price: How Low Can It Goes?

The hosting company is now offering Windows hosting at super-duber-low-price. I am not talking about or discount. I am talking about the kind of discount that will change the landscape of entire Windows hosting business. For years, Windows users have been paying a lot more than Linux users for web hosting.

Not anymore.

Things changed overnight with Hostgator’s latest href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.com/hostgatorwindows.php">Windows Hosting Promotion.

Hostgator is now offering unlimited Windows hosting at .46/mo*! I repeat, .46/mo* for Windows hosting with unlimited disk space, unlimited bandwidth, Plesk control panel with Microsoft SQL, Access Database, ASP, and ASP.net features.

What I think about Hostgator?

I never try Hostgator Windows Hosting before but I believe my experience as a BabyGator user  could be a good reference for all hosting shoppers. To learn what I think about the Gators, you can read my detail href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/hosting-review/hostgator/">Hostgator Review.

*Important Note: style="text-decoration: underline;">The price .46/mo is based on discounted price using my special promotion code (WHSR25Discount). For normal promo price (code: Spring), the discount is only 20% and the monthly price will be .76/mo (which is the price where most other website has to offer).

class="border" alt="Hostgator Black Friday Sales 2010 - Alexa Ranking" src="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/images/2011/1123-6.jpg" width="750" height="376" />

Thanksgiving. Black Friday. Cyber Monday. Remember how crazy it was last year at Hostgator? The Gators ran a ‘store-wide’ 80% price cut on Black Friday 2010. The bargain was so good – web hosting shoppers went so crazy with the promotion and href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/hosting-review/hostgator/">pushes Hostgator up to #1 trending topic on Alexa 2010 (see picture above).

Well, this year I suspect something similar is brewing.

I just received an official email from the Gator and I was informed that they will be running another round of Black Friday Promotion. I have just marked my calendar and I will try my best to release the promotion details (offer terms & conditions, discount link, coupon code, bargain dates, etc etc… whatever that’s matter) as soon as I am allowed to do so.

So stay tuned, and remember to come back here on this Thursday or Friday.

style="line-height: 1.5em;">WHSR is leaving Hostgator and will be hosted on style="line-height: 1.5em;" title="Visit WP Engine Online" href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/go/wpengine" target="_blank">WP Enginestyle="line-height: 1.5em;"> starting this week. Site migration is done and we should be just hours away for the DNS propagation to complete.

*Update: You can now read my href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/hosting-review/wp-engine/">WPEngine Hosting Review here.

What cause the move, Jerry?

I was given the chance to try out WP Engine hosting for free. Well, not completely free, I need to write them a review in return; but I have 100% freedom on what I want to write – good or bad. Seeing that WHSR growing steadily for the past 2 years (the blog actually went down twice due to heavy traffic surge), I believe it’s the right time to go for something ‘premium’ like what WP Engine has to offer.

Are you saying that you are unhappy with Hostgator?

No, not a bit. In fact, I am very happy with Hostgator service and am still keeping my Hostgator account (BabyHosting Plan) for my other websites.

Hostgator and WP Engine are two very different type of hosting services – You don’t compare apple with an orange.

WP Engine who?

WP Engine is somewhat new in hosting industry but they are very good. By focusing solely on WordPress hosting, the company delivers topnotch performance and won several huge client names in a very short time, including HTC, FourSquare, America’s Test Kitchen, as well as SoundCloud.

Last year April I interviewed WP Engine co-founder Jason Cohen (it’s a good piece, href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/blog/featured-articles/interview-with-wp-engine-co-founder-jason-cohen/">go read it) and I have published a new WP Engine review based on my usage experience, check it out: href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/hosting-review/wp-engine/" target="_blank">WP Engine Review.

I will be watching WP Engine closely for the next few months – do come back for more updates and in-depth reviews. Is Hostgator Shared Hosting Safe? (Secret Revealed From HG Employee)

alt="Is Hostgator Shared Hosting Safe? (Secret Revealed From HG Employee)" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/hostgator-500x274_c.jpg" />

Every now and then I receive ‘secrets’ from anonymous. Most of these whistle blower were haters who simply enjoy spreading hate messages, or competitors who wish to get you into troubles, or hosting companies competitors spreading false rumors about others. Needless to say, these info were filtered and never published on WHSR.

However, I received something different from a Hostgator employee three weeks ago – something meaningful and worth publishing on WHSR.

The Message From D, Hostgator Employee

Quoted below is the full message I received.

Jerry,

You might want to add to your hostgator review that the security there is pretty low.

Every single support person and there are hundreds of them have complete access to all shared cPanels and main cpanels of reseller accounts. Not to mention all billing information and all websites that are hosted on each account. Even a an hour person on their 2nd day of work in training. If you have anything on your website you consider secure it would be real easy for a competitor or enemy to get access to this information. style="text-decoration: underline;">Hostgator will hire just about anybody for this position so it would be real easy for them to get a job and by the 2nd day get all they needed maybe even on first day. Then they could just quit.

style="text-decoration: underline;">This would probably not be a great way to do something real bad because if somebody complained to hostgator they could track the last person who accessed the account. But if somebody just wanted to learn something to copy what you are doing or get somebodies client list or something that you would probably never trace back to hostgator. I would never put anything important or sensitive on Hostgator. The VPS and dedicated servers are secure as any other host other than you could actually find out who owns them and their personal information. I don’t know how any other hosts works but because of how big Hostgator is and the huge turnover in the support department they have some pretty big security holes. I don’t want this public.

Regards, D

My Thoughts In This

Is this the truth? I believe so. I have style="text-decoration: underline;">verified the messenger’s employment offer and followed his/her (messenger’s gender hidden) Twitter account, I conclude that this is highly trust-able. So it seems that the Hostgator is not taking its shared hosting users serious enough. As a Hostgator user, am I worried? Yes. Should you think again if you have just decided to go with Hostgator shared hosting? Yes. (But are other shared hosting companies running in a better shape?)

If you want to learn more, here’s my previous title="Hostgator Web Hosting Review" href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/hosting-review/hostgator/">Hostgator review – note that however it was done before I receive the email from D.

It’d be great if other Hostgator employees (or ex-employees) can chip in and comment on this.

Hostgator Review

alt="Hostgator Review" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/hostgator-350-1-500x285_tl.jpg" />

Hostgator Inc. was founded by Brent Oxley in his college dorm back in 2002. The company grew from a one-man operation to one with hundreds of employees over the years; and was title="Hostgator Inc 5000 listing in 2008" href="http://blog.hostgator.com/2008/08/21/inc-5000-2008/" target="_blank">ranked 21st (year 2008) and title="Hostgator Inc 5000 listing in 2009" href="http://blog.hostgator.com/2009/08/21/2009-inc-5000/" target="_blank">239th (year 2009) in Inc. 5000 Fastest Growing Company.

In 2012, Brent sold the company was sold to Endurance International Group (EIG) for, unofficial figure, 5 million. style="line-height: 1.5em;">EIG, which also owns a number of other well-known hosting brands, including BlueHost, iPage, FatCow, HostMonster, Pow Web, Easy CGI, Arvixe, eHost, A Small Orange, and so on; is now the largest website hosting company.

As a long time Hostgator user (for almost 10 years), I have witnessed the up and down of the company. This site was once hosted on Hostgator before I moved to cloud-based hosting href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/hosting-review/wp-engine/">WP Engine in 2011 and to href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/hosting-review/inmotion-hosting/">InMotion Hosting two years later. Today, I still host a couple of small sites at my Baby Hosting account.

This review summarises my decade of usage experience and offers years of data at Hostgator. I hope you will find this useful.

About Hostgator Special Discount

First let’s talk about Hostgator discount. There are generally four different types of discounts with Hostgator. One, the usual official promo code (something like ‘SNAPPY’ or similar) that gives 20% price cut; two, the .01 hosting offer where Hostgator will charge only one cent on your first month hosting bill.

Both offers are NOT the best.

If you do the maths on second deal (the one-cent hosting) is actually the worst as the deal equals to ~7 or 8% price cut.

So what’s the best deal? For the *BEST* Hostgator discount, you need to wait for the company’s flash sales – which usually appears 4 – 5 times a year; offers up to 40% discount. Flash sales usually popup without early notice (hence the name Flash) and it’s very time-limited.

Promo code: WHSR25Discount, Save 25% on first hosting bill!

For those who can’t wait and wish to sign up immediately, the best deal (if there’s no flash sales) would be exclusive partner code (ie. WHSR25Discount), which you’ll get 25% price cut on all Hostgator hosting plans.
