I received a very detail SiteServing review from a reader named Myra Levi on Dec 15, 2011; and, I think it’s a very useful piece of information (thanks man!). So… here goes.
About SiteServing Hosting
class="border" src="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/images/2012/0119-4.jpg" alt="SiteServing Homepage" width="750px" />
SiteServing is a privately held web hosting company that was started in 2000. SiteServing was built to service our customers and their requirements. You can visit SiteServing at href="http://www.siteserving.com/" target="_blank">http://www.siteserving.com/
Having not heard of SiteServing before, I decided to give them a shot back around eight months ago. They aren’t newcomers in the business, but they haven’t really been overly aggressive in the marketing before either. Having been around since 2000, they have proven to know what their doing (just by age alone). Below, are just some of my findings and opinions about this web hosting company.
My experience with SiteServing hosting
What can I say; SiteServing has everything any Webmaster will never need. From three different shared hosting plans, in around five locations, to every virtualization type known to man (or at least at the moment). SiteServing has all the accoutrements of an experienced team, and none of the short fallings (at least that I’ve been able to see so far).
What’s the pricing like?
The pricing for SiteServing is very reasonable; they have certainly done their research and it shows. SiteServing is extremely well priced and their initial shared hosting offering goes for as little as .95/mo, and that’s actually very hard to beat (no matter where you look).
From a visitors perspective, SiteServing has everything in one easy-to-use location, from their extensive 700+ knowledgebase articles, to their 364+ video tutorials, they generally have everything you need to get started. Even some of the other hosting providers have no where near this level of documentation or user assistance guides. That’s just some of the items that make SiteServing standout for me and for probably any first time visitor.
So, what’s good about SiteServing?
Fact: SiteServing has been around for over 10 years. Frankly, I’ve never heard much about them, until fairly recently. It seems that something within that company changed, and sounds, looks and feels like someone experienced has shown up. In fact, if you review everything you’ll notice quickly that they are extremely well documented, and everything is meticulously groomed to perfection. I was browsing their site and see that they have won numerous awards from industry review organizations such as PC Pro, WebHostDir, and many others. This really makes me realize that SiteServing might be that hidden gem that you’ve never found. This was the case for me at least.
99.99% Uptime Guarantee
While uptime guarantees vary, very few hosting providers have dared place 99.99% uptime guarantees on their website, due to the possibility of outages. This is certainly another quality marker of the SiteServing system, if you take a look into what 99.99% actually means, and that’s literally less than 52.56 minutes per year! That simply goes to show that SiteServing really has high expectations, showing customers, like me, that not only are they providing quality service, but they are putting money where their mouth is, literally.
Shared hosting plans and affordable plans
It seems that there are some web hosting providers such as SiteServing that are saying “enough” with the “unlimited everything” approach to web hosting, and actually starting to offer something that is real. As you see nowadays most hosting providers don’t actually provide true unlimited resources, SiteServing has decided to end with the fiasco and provide true resources for true money.
What makes SiteServing better than the rest, is that they are affordable, clean, crisp and by the looks of it, a highly motivated company. SiteServing isn’t your fly-by-night operation, nor is it the run of the mill web hosting provider, they are a serious player that has invested heavily into their presence – I can tell this from just looking at their website. What that means to customers, is that you get to enjoy all the extras they provide, while they do all the heavy lifting.
One-Click web App Installations
If you take a look at the SiteServing control panel, you’ll quickly notice a couple of things. The first being that SiteServing offers not one, but two auto installers, the first is called Fantastico and the second is called Softaculous. Both have huge pluses, and a wide selection of one-click installable scripts. For example, ever wanted to install WordPress, Joomla, Mambo, Drupal, or anything else, quickly? Well, with SiteServing you can, in one click – literally. All this goes to show that SiteServing is dedicated to creating a better experience for the customer, it certainly is for me.
So what might go wrong with SiteServing?
So far, having been hosted with them eight months, I can’t say that I’ve actually had any issues with them so far. The Server is fast, the uptime is strong, and the whole system feels solid.
The only thing that I can say about them that is negative (dependent on the way you look at it) is that they are a name that hasn’t been as widely spread as others. However, you have to remember that it doesn’t mean anything, it’s just rare to see such a highly optimized, and built company that hasn’t been pushed into the limelight. My guess is that they have not paid for reviews and top spots like I suspect other hosting companies do. I know some pay to have their top spot. I also know from experience that a top spot means nothing. I have plenty of horror stories from previous hosts, and all from the most popular web hosting companies.
Conclusion: Is SiteServing hosting a go or a stay?
If you’re searching for a web hosting provider that has everything under one roof, and has the vast amount of documentation, then SiteServing is a go. Having fairly priced hosting and over a decade (from what I’ve researched) of experience, SiteServing isn’t a company that is going away anytime soon. I’m just going to rate SiteServing an A and surely going to (and have) recommend them to all my friends, co-workers and family.

Updates On My iPage Review (2012)
alt="Updates On My iPage Review (2012)" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/ipage-500x330_c.jpg" />
A little Background Story On Previous iPage Review
class="border" alt="My iPage Review" src="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/images/2012/0724-1.jpg" width="750" />
A few years back I acquired a hosting account at iPage and href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/hosting-review/ipage/">wrote an in-depth review on it. Although I do update my iPage review from time to time; there was nothing major being re-reviewed or modified once I have fully tested the web host. My previous iPage account was left dormant and eventually expired some time ago.
Thanks to some active readers who sent me emails and Twitter messages, I picked up my lazy bones and signup myself again with a brand new iPage account*.
Yes, I spent on web hosting plus the new domain fees and did a total re-check on iPage hosting (actually no, I spent about 0 on new web hosting accounts including IX Web Hosting and A2 Hosting; but that’s story for some other day).
My 2012 Experience With iPage Hosting
Well, in general things are still all good at iPage. I do, however, have a few points (both plus and minus) to add on top of my old review. Here are a few extra good things I see in iPage during the recent signup.
iPage Is Now Serving Simple Scripts
class="border" alt="SimpleScripts at iPage" src="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/images/2012/0724-2.jpg" width="750" height="354" />
iPage is no more using the old Install Central system. Instead, Simple Scripts (created by Matt Heaton and Ben Merrill) is served and users now get to install more than 100 of popular web applications (WordPress, Joomla, MODx, QuickBooks, etc) conveniently.
Instant Account Activation With iPage Is For Real
When iPage talks about its instant account activation, it is *really* instant. I got my new account login details right after my payment; I was already done with the WordPress installation and working on the new site content within the next 10 minutes.
When you are working with 10 other different web hosts in the same time, you’ll appreciate such level of efficiency. Believe me, not many hosting companies offer such rapid service when it comes to account activation. I used to wait for days for a phone call activation even though I was paying with cash in my PayPal account.
iPage Hosting Is Extremely Cheap
Yes, I knew I have mentioned this in my old review but seriously, this is worth mentioning again and again. At .50/mo**, you get to host unlimited domain in one hosting account. Remember that the year is 2012, not 2008. While every other hosting companies I knew have raised their price in the past few years, iPage has reduced its price by 25% the least.
If you are looking for a budget host, look no further, iPage is the answer.
iPage now comes with ultra clear usage policy
Remember my href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/the-truth-about-unlimited-hosting/">post about unlimited hosting some years ago? Well, I am glad to see some hosting companies, including iPage, are no longer hiding behind such dodgy marketing tricks anymore.
The company now states clearly (a link to the policy is visible at the homepage) that it will give 48 hours of warning period (and suspend after the warning period) to the users who have exceed “normal bandwidth and disk space utilization”.
While this does not affect much of the user experience practically, I do see the company’s attitude of being honest as a positive sign (that it’s going to take good care of its customers).
Problems with iPage Hosting
Okay, enough with the trumpet blowing. Now let’s talk about some of the problems with iPage. Just like any other web hosts, iPage has its own pros and cons – hey, iPage is just another hosting company in business to make money, right? As a smart consumer, you should always know the story on both sides. My job here is to lay down all the facts about hosting at iPage – both good and bad – so you can make an informed choice.
There are a few questionable practices at iPage that you should pay attention to.
Be Careful Of iPage’s Internal Selling
class="border" alt="SimpleScripts at iPage" src="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/images/2012/0724-3.jpg" width="750" />
Frankly I do not know what to call this, I guess Internal Selling or (Inbound Marketing?) is the right phrase to use. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong. Anyway, here’s what I am trying to describe:
When you first signup with iPage, you will be “lured” into various free trials. There is a wide list of so-call Marketing Services in iPage control panel including Constant Contact, EmailBrain Small Business, Free Toll-Free Phone Number, Free YP.com Listing, Google Webmaster Tools, Y! Sponsored Search Credits, and so on. Please be aware that many of these services are only free for the trial period – you will need to pay if once the trial period has ended. Careless users who accidentally activated the trials (or forgot to cancel the services within the trial period) are forced to pay for useless services.
Expensive Renewal Fees
When you first sign up with iPage, the price is .50/mo. This is actually the special offers made possible with my special partnership with the company. Upon renewal, you will be requested to pay at the regular rate (which is relative higher, but reasonable) for your iPage account.
The regular price structures are as below.
You should also be aware that iPage actually stated this clearly in its billing policy and you may always check BillingCentral (inside iPage Control Panel) to get an up-to-date statement of the current amount being billed for services.
iPage Review From WHSR Readers
Before I end this updates on iPage, I would like to include this iPage review by Saskia Davis of href="http://www.symptomsofinnerpeace.net/Authors_Website/Home.html" target="_blank">Symptoms Of Inner Peace. It is a bit long, our discussion took about two weeks to conclude, and it is a very useful piece.

Hi Jerry,
I have appreciated your website. This is feedback for you and a request for your input, as well.
I have spent a few days with your host reviews and recommendations. Made some calls. Since on the basis of your reviews and my calls, I had narrowed the field to 3, when I discovered Ipage and Fat Cow had merged, I went with Ipage. So far, that is. I signed up, yesterday, without first having read their terms of service. (I never thought of it until I was creating the on-line account this morning.) Now am rethinking it.
1. Promises made by the salesman are not born out by techs. Techs are not prepared, as promised, to help me upload from IWeb. Nor was the supervisor helpful in that regard. However, I had the presence of mind to call the Sales Department, again. Spoke with a different salesman from the one from whom I bought the program. He offered and
followed through with a website tutorial on how to do the upload. He m-a-y have redeemed the company. The jury is still out.2. Terms of service: Their Terms of Service are very iPage-centric. If I had gotten off to a better start with the tech department, I might not be worrying so much about the Terms of Service. But customer has to agree to pay costs of any dispute, apparently whether or not the dispute is settled in favor of the customer. See below:
3. Customer must agree to auto-billing and/or charging of credit card. When talking with the supervisor, I said I wanted to opt for the billing, not the charging of the card. He said they were the same thing. I had not read the terms of service before signing up.(Lesson learned) In fact, it was hard to read them because there is no scroll mechanism; so most of the terms are below the bottom level of the screen. I had to copy and paste them onto a document on my computer in order to read what I would be agreeing to.
4. After receiving the unbelievable news from the supervisor that “billing” and “credit card charging” “mean the same thing”, I called the Billing Department. When I explained that I had signed up for 3 years and that I would want the opportunity to consider my needs and the costs before my credit card was charged for the next term, she did have an alternative. However, her alternative is not mentioned in the Terms of Service, so I will have to decide how much I trust the company to honor what one of their employees has told me.
5. My next move will be to contact the BBB to find out if they have had complaints.
Jerry, any perspective that you can provide will be welcome at this point.
Sincerely,
Saskia DavisOn July 5th, 2012, Saskia Davis wrote:
Dear Jerry,
I worry that this feedback would be overly long for a review, but I still would consider it if you were to give me the opportunity to approve any edits.
After writing to you, the last time, I went to the Better Business Bureau site (BBB). Although resolution had been effective, still I found far too many complaints had been filed with reviews that supported my concerns about the company not keeping its promises. So, I decided to pay more money and go with my other choice, Web Hosting Hub, which you also had reviewed.
Their terms also included credit card auto-draft, but the BBB customer reviews, on the whole, had been positive with very few complaints and their original salesperson’s approach had sounded more tutorial and less like a sales pitch. I decided to trust that I could work with them. In fact, I was able to make other billing arrangements with them.
At this point it is important to say that my host search was driven by Apple’s impending end of MobileMe services. The salespeople of both hosts said that their techs could provide the information I would need to transfer my iWeb site to their service. However the iPage tech team did not agree. Before deciding to cancel, I tried to call the salesman back who had made that promise. Fortunately for me, he wasn’t there. A colleague took the call. This is the positive thing that came out of my experience with iPage. He provided me with the URL for a free AP with which to make the transfer. When I commented that it was a surprise to find that the salesman knew more than the techs, he replied that he had been around a long time. I might have let the help he had given me outweigh my concerns, but the BBB complaints and customer reviews tipped the balance.
The switch to WebHostingHub (WHH) would not have been smooth, might not even have been possible, without the AP to which I had been introduced by the iPage sales colleague. The WHH tech sourced a set of instructions for another iWeb version and I did not have the technical understanding to reinterpret them for my version. Neither did he. He seemed utterly at a loss. The little w2w AP saved the day! At my request, the tech stayed with me while I read the instructions. I needed him to interpret some of the techy terms.
Once I understood it, it was VERY simple.When I returned the requested WHH tech evaluation, I included the URL for the AP. They were not interested, replying that they could not recommend a 3rd party AP. So, knowing that, at least for iWeb site owners, I probably can’t recommend WHH, either… that is: unless site owners find and use the AP without the recommendation of WHH. Here is the href="http://macintoshhowto.com/internet/upload-iweb-sites-if-you-dont-have-a-mac-account.html" target="_blank">link. Once past the transfer challenge, so far, smooth sailing. I am anticipating a positive experience.
Best, Saskia Davis
So, Is iPage Hosting Still A Go?
href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/go/ipage" target="_blank">class="border" alt="Visit iPage Online" src="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/images/2012/0724-4.jpg" width="750" />
Well as I said, my job here is to lay out all the facts and you’ll have to make your own decision (whether iPage is right for you or not). In my personal opinion, iPage is indeed a great choice for those who wants a balance between quality and price. .50/mo can merely buy you a Starbucks coffee but with that price iPage is offering you the capacity to host unlimited addon domain with 24/7 support. For those who are searching for a budget web host, iPage has all that you need. But hey, then again, that’s me – If you think you can get a better deal elsewhere, feel free to do so.

Remark *: For your reference, here’s my href="http://www.ipagereviews.co/" target="_blank">test site on the new iPage account. **: The price .50/mo is based on the price with my href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/go/ipage" target="_blank">special promotion link. Prices may be different if you order iPage independently or via other independently.

My Hosting Story: Downtown Host Review
alt="My Hosting Story: Downtown Host Review" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/hosting-reviews-500x233_c.jpg" />
I’ve designed websites for almost 15 years now, first for my own pleasure and later for others as a paid web designer.
In that decade and a half, I’ve tried several different hosts. I currently use three different hosts for my various websites, because of different features and such, but href="http://www.downtownhost.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Downtown Host has quickly become my favorite web host and the one I keep the majority of my sites on. They were founded in 2001, so have been around for well over 10 years.
Web Hosting Problems
If you’ve been in the web design business longer than three seconds, you’ve likely run into problems with a host or two. There are few things more aggravating than getting your sites transferred to the new server, thinking it is a good fit and then running into problems that can’t be resolved.
These issues can include things like:
- Slow load times
- Too much down time
- Disappearing updates – you update and it doesn’t take
- Hackers getting into your sites from the backend
- Lack of customer service
- Slow response from customer service
- Billing errors
- Poor technical support
- Technical support by someone in another country and you can’t understand what he is saying because of a thick accent
- Limitations you didn’t expect as far as bandwidth or number of domains you can add
Out of all of these problems, I have to say that slow or poor customer service is the worst. I can deal with missing a feature or two, if I can work around it. I can deal with an occasional billing error. Poor customer service is one of the most difficult things to deal with, because it makes it impossible to fix any problem you might have. The next thing that causes the most issues is slow load times or down time. Your visitors will get frustrated over these things and you’ll lose business.
In the past, I have had some true horror stories about sites going down and having to be rebuilt (that will teach you very quickly to always backup your sites). On top of that, I’ve had hosts who try to overcharge by billing too soon, changing billings dates around, double-charging for the same services and so on. Then, there was the time when all of my sites went down for no obvious reason and the host tried to tell me that it must just be on my end. Strange, since it was the same on every computer I tried and for all of those I asked to try to access my sites on their end. You can imagine that I’m a bit leery of href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/compare-best-five-hosting/" target="_blank">web hosting companies and that honesty and customer service are two of the qualities that matter most to me.
My Experience with Downtown Host
class="border" src="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/images/2012/0927-20.jpg" alt="Downtown Hosting Website" width="750" />
I switched to Downtown Host for the majority of my accounts in September of 2007. I’ve now been with them nearly five years, which is the longest I’ve ever stayed with a single hosting company. Almost immediately, I saw the difference in the customer service. I didn’t have to ask if they offered a move of my websites as a courtesy, they offered.
The few times I’ve had issues with something, they have responded to my e-mails within minutes, not days or hours. Once, it did take them a couple of days to figure out a backend issue, but they stayed in contact and kept me posted on the progress. I have to say that the technical support people at Downtown Host are knowledgeable and pleasant.
When my site was attacked by hackers, they helped me figure out how to get it back to where it was and gave me some information to secure it. These were issues they did not have to help me with, as the hacking was not related to their servers, yet they took the time to help me out because they had the knowledge and were able to.
No hosting company is perfect 100% of the time. I’d like to remain unbiased in this review and report problems, but I simply have not had many. I am not affiliated with Downtown Host, other than hosting my sites with them, and I am not being paid by them to write this review. I am simply reporting my personal experience as one of their customers. Is there an occasional blip here and there?
Of course. What makes the difference at Downtown Host is that they respond to those issues quickly, professionally and to my satisfaction. That is what keeps me hosting on their servers for years on end.
Types of Hosting
class="border" src="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/images/2012/0927-21.jpg" alt="Downtown Hosting Website" width="750" />
Downtown Host offers shared hosting, basic hosting and reseller hosting accounts. If you need more dedicated services, they have several options, such as semi-dedicated, dedicated, or virtual private servers.
Although cost can vary, if you just need basic hosting for a single site, you can get 10 GB of space and 200 GB bandwidth for only .95 a month if you sign up for the longest plan and pay in advance. You can also pay monthly if you don’t want to commit to such a long-term investment.
If you want to host multiple domains, you’ll need more space. Their “Shared Gold” account offers 20 GB of disk space and the ability to add on unlimited domains for around .95 per month. You’ll save more if you pay for several months up to three years in advance.
Hosting Features
The features offered by Downtown Host are excellent for most websites. There is a href="http://cpanel.net/products/cpanelwhm/try-demo.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">live demo of their control panel on their website, so you can give it a spin. This panel allows you to access everything their servers have to offer. It includes Fantastico, which allows you to easily install WordPress, PHPList and many other open source programs. This will install the program and create your SQL database automatically, making it perfect for the non-technical website owner. Capabilities include:
- Frontpage Extensions
- Ruby
- Fantastico
- SQL Wizards
- Spam Assassin
- RV Skin
- Website Statistics
- Unlimited Domain Parking

class="border" src="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/images/2012/0927-22.jpg" alt="Downtown Hosting Website" width="750" />
Downtown Host has 24/7 live support. Technical support can be reached by filing a ticket on the website, e-mailing technical support, or by placing a telephone call. As I mentioned previously, response times have always been very fast for me. Independent reviews on various personal blogs all seem to be positive. Customers on the site offer testimonials about why they like Downtown Host. They do offer a 30-day Money Back Guarantee as well.

GreenGeeks Review
alt="GreenGeeks Review" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/greengeeks-review-500x305_tl.jpg" />
First off, some quick facts on GreenGeeks: The company was founded in 2006 by Trey Gardner, currently it is hosting more than 100,000 websites, it is the only web host that goes up to 300% eco-friendly (more about this later), and the Geeks is the official partner with and recommended Drupal Hosting by the book ‘Drupal For Dummies’.
About GreenGeeks CEO: Trey Gardner

When I talk about GreenGeeks, Trey Gardner is an important name that I will never miss mentioning.
Trey has been around for more than 10 years and I have never known anyone myself with broader experience as he has in web hosting industry. More than a decade ago, he founded (and sold) iPowerWeb; he was one of the key-players in Lunarpages back in the company’s glory days; he has held a number of top positions in several large hosting companies including General Manager, Director of Marketing, Reseller Program Director, Sales Director and Quality Assurance Director; and he has built a reseller programs from scratch back in 2000s. I was also equally impressed by his friendliness and dedication to work when I did title="Greengeeks Trey Gardner Interview" href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/blog/featured-articles/interview-with-trey-gardner-greengeekstigersites/">this interview some years ago.
What I wanted to point out is that GreenGeeks is founded and established by a group of experienced guys lead by one of the most famous web hosting CEO. These guys are here to stay in business, and their broad industry experience is definitely something valuable to the customers.

The Truth Behind 300% Green Hosting
How is 300% green possible?
Honestly, I was just as skeptical as you are now when I first heard about GreenGeeks’s Green Policy. I got extremely curious and sent tons of questions to both Trey and TJ Williams (another key person in GreenGeeks) before I made my purchase.
Eventually, the GreenGeeks guys explained everything in a long email and sent me a scan copy of a certification from Bonneville Environmental Foundation, showing that the company had just purchased 2.3 million MW of clean energy back into the grid at that time of writing. It got me convinced and got on-board.
How GreenGeeks is 300% green?
In case you are curious like me, this is how 300% green works: For every unit power consumed, GreenGeeks will purchase three times (hence, the figure 300%) of it, in wind-powered energy form, and send it back to the grid to offset the company’s carbon footprint.
style="text-align: center;">Updates: GreenGeeks has also been recently inducted into the title="EPA Partner" href="http://www.greengeeks.com/going-green/epa-partner.php" target="_blank">United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Green Power Partnership (see image above).

What’s Good About GreenGeeks?
Here’s what we like about GreenGeeks Hosting according to our usage experience.
The Best Green Hosting Service
Want the most eco-friendly web host? It has to be GreenGeeks! By introducing 300% green hosting, GreenGeeks is definitely setting new high in hosting industry standards.
Daily Backup Policy
One feature that you don’t normally see on a .95/mo hosting deal is daily site backup. Well, not the case with GreenGeeks – the company support Nightly Backups – this means your website data is backup daily. If something bad happens (hacks, server hardware failure, etc), rest assure that your data is in safe hands.
Affordable Pricing After Discount
It’s worth noting that GreenGeeks is relative cheap, especially when the company spent so much money in purchasing renewable energy. With my exclusive discount code, you’ll get discount from your first hosting bill. This pull down GreenGeeks price to .25/mo for 36-month subscription and roughly .90/mo for 24- and 12-month subscription.
Room To Grow
There are three types of hosting offered at GreenGeeks – shared, reseller, and VPS hosting. In other words, server upgrade is an easy option when you host with GreenGeeks and you don’t have to worry about your websites outgrowing your host.

Drawbacks – GreenGeeks Hosting
Customer Supports Need Improvement
If you search around long enough, you should be aware that there are quite some complaints on GreenGeeks customer support. Well, this is sort of the common problem for all budget web hosts. While GreenGeeks does state that their support staffs are all in-house staffs stationed in North Americans, it’s obvious that some of the guys need more training in solving customers’ problem instead of pissing them off.
Expensive Domain Fees on Refund Claims
Under GreenGeek’s 30 days full refund policy, you can ask for a refund on the first 30 days trial period. However, this refund policy does not include domain registration fees (of .95/domain) as well as other addon features cost (such as SSL, CDN cost, etc). While I think the policy is fair (as GreenGeeks actually pull out from their pocket to cover the domain registration), .95 is rather expensive. So my advice is not to take up their free domain (nor transfer in your existing domain to GreenGeeks) when you are signing up.
Quoted from GreenGeeks’ TOS
Domain Names transferred to our service incur an additional year of registration and therefore are considered a domain registration. Domain registration fees are .95/yr. Domain names of customers which leave our hosting service will be refunded the package price total less the domain registration fee if the customer leaves GreenGeeks hosting service within the 30 day money back guarantee.

Conclusion: Should You Go With GreenGeeks?
Okay, after all the facts and comparison info, you might ask: What do all these mean to you as a user?
Who should (or should not) host at GreenGeeks?
Well, for one, since there are some negative feedbacks on GreenGeeks customer support, if you are a newbie who always need hand-holding-spoon-feed support, then perhaps it’s not the best choice. If, however, you are confident that you can handle some basic hosting operations, and you want a good cheap eco-friendly hosting, then GreenGeeks is definitely your cup of tea.
The company’s eco-friendly policy is truly top of its class and I don’t see any other hosting company is doing better than 300% green. Note, again, that GreenGeeks is run by experienced management with more than 15 years of industry experience. Also, the founder has been around long enough to prove that it’s not some fly-by-night web host riding on the ‘green label’ trying to make some quick bucks. The company is here to stay, and you can trust GreenGeeks with your websites.
And, last but not least, it is a truly, 300% green, certified by Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF), eco-friendly web hosting company.

Media Temple Review
alt="Media Temple Review" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/mediatemple-500x251_c.jpg" />
Established in 1998 and headquartered in Los Angeles, California, Media Temple, also often known as (mt), is a web hosting and cloud services provider recommended by many. The company offers all four kinds of hosting services – the Grid (shared hosting), DV (VPS hosting), DV Enterprise (dedicated hosting), and Helix (cloud hosting).
Media Temple is one of the most popular web hosts among developers and professional bloggers, and that position is well earned with more than 125,000 users with more than 1,500,000 domains. Media Temple generously gave me a free trial account on the Grid and the following is my Media Temple review based on the usage experience.
Introducing Media Temple Hosting Services
As mentioned, Media Temple offers a wide range of hosting services. The vast choices might be a little confusing for first-timers, especially when Media Temple named their hosting plans based on various short forms.
Hence, before we dig into the meat of this review, let’s have a closer look on what Media Temple has to offer.
Media Temple Grid (Shared Hosting)
- Cluster-based shared hosting in Linux environment
- Optimized for WordPress with 100GB storage and 1TB bandwidth
- Host up to 1,000 email addresses and 100 websites per account
- Price: /mo
Media Temple DV Managed & DV Developer (VPS Hosting)
For VPS hosting, Media Temple users get to choose between a non-managed or managed hosting environment. Non-managed VPS hosting plans (DV Developer) are generally cheaper but you will have to build everything from the ground up. On the other hand, users who opt for managed VPS (DV Managed) will need to pay a slightly higher price but you will start with a ready-to-go hosting environment in Parallels Plesks 11.
- Entry level server specs at 1GB RAM, 30GB storage, and 1TB bandwidth
- Price starts at /mo for DV Developer; for DV Managed
- 99.999% managed uptime guaranteed for DV Managed
- Full SSH and root access available for DV Developer plans
- One-click installation and Plesks 11 control panel available for DV Managed plans
DV Enterprise (Dedicated Hosting)
Like Media Temple VPS hosting plans, users get to choose between managed and non-managed hosting environments with a price difference of 0/mo. Some quick server specifications for DV Enterprise deal.
- 16-core Intel Xeon 2.13 GHz with 64GB DDR3 RAM
- 2.4 TB (8 x 300GB) SAS hard drives
- RAID-10, battery-backed write-cache, 1GB network switch

My experience at Media Temple (so far)
My Media Temple experience (slightly more than one month at the time of writing this review) so far has been very positive. I am particular impressed with how fast Media Temple responds to customer requests. Both of my live chat requests were answered immediately by a helpful Media Temple staff member; and the staff handling Media Temple’s Twitter account are ultra-active. Tweets containing @mediatemple were replied to within hours.

What’s good about Media Temple
In summary, here are the major benefits you get at Media Temple
class="meteor-icon" style="font-size:130% !important;">
class="icon-star" style="color:inherit !important;">
Great Customer Service
Support at Media Temple is 24/7 available by phone, email, live chat, and Twitter. I contacted the customer service twice so far; no complaints at all.
class="meteor-icon" style="font-size:130% !important;">
class="icon-star" style="color:inherit !important;">
CloudTech Premium Support
You can pay a little extra to get pampered by Media Temple support staff. The company will have certified engineers analyze your web codes, install web apps, backup and restore data, as well as cleaning a hack on your account.
class="meteor-icon" style="font-size:130% !important;">
class="icon-star" style="color:inherit !important;">
Ultra Fast Servers
My Media Temple hosted dummy site scores an 84/100 on Pingdom (faster than 73% of all sites). My dummy site hosted on A2 Hosting (which is one of the fastests), in comparison, was 80/100 and faster than 70% of all sites. For your reference, here are the comparison results I checked using Pingdom Website Speed Test Tool.
* All results are based on test from server at Amsterdam, Netherlands using title="Pingdom Speed Test Tool" href="http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/" target="_blank">Pingdom Website Speed Test Tool.
class="meteor-icon" style="font-size:130% !important;">
class="icon-star" style="color:inherit !important;">
Reddit-ready Bandwidth
Hosting servers at Media Temple are highly scalable. The Grid bandwidth and database system scales with your web traffics.
class="meteor-icon" style="font-size:130% !important;">
class="icon-star" style="color:inherit !important;">
Valuable Add-on Services at the Grid
style="line-height: 1.5em;">Media Temple offers a number of rare (but very handy) upgrades to Grid users who need extra server performance. To name a few – MySQL GridContainer (for scalable MySQL environment that guarantees performance) and CloudFlare with RailGun (for extra site security).
class="meteor-icon" style="font-size:130% !important;">
class="icon-remove-circle" style="color:inherit !important;">
Drawbacks at Media Temple Grid Hosting Plan
There are, however, two small issues with Media Temple.
1-click installation supports a very limited number of web apps
WordPress, Drupal, and Zen Cart are the only three web apps Grid users can install via 1-click installation. Users who wish to use other web apps (such as Joomla, OS Commerce, and Gallery) will have to do manual installation. Media Temple DV users, however, get to install over 200+ web apps via the 1-click installation feature.
Slightly disappointing uptime record
My site was down for 19 minutes in the past month, scoring 99.94% in uptime for the last 30 days. No big deal with 99.94%, but I am certainly expecting better for a host that costs /mo.
style="text-align: center;">Feedbacks from Media Temple customers on WHSR
I have interviewed more than 40 web developers and bloggers in the past 30 days. Guess what? Out of thousands (if not more) of hosting brand names, Media Temple is the one of the most recommended brand names in my interviews.
David’s feedback on Media Temple Hosting
I am absolutely happy with my current web host. Media Temple has been there when I needed them.
For example, a WordPress plugin used by my blog was exploited and caused problems on my virtual server. I was in Brazil at the time, so I was unable to call them. I tweeted them and they had a new machine ready for me in no time. They were a major lifesaver and they’ve always jumped to help any time I needed it.

Jeff Starr’s comment on Media Temple Hosting
Yes, I am very happy with Media Temple. Moving around from host to host over the course of my 10+ years online, I’ve found Media Temple to provide affordable, awesome hosting and excellent customer service.
It was around 2009 and I had been hosted at “A Small Orange” (on a shared server) for a couple of years. The servers were inconsistent and the support staff (with an exception or two) was pretty horrible, so I finally got fed up and decided to find something better. After much research I finally chose Media Temple because of their reported 1) consistency/uptime, 2) excellent customer service, 3) not too crazy expensive pricing. So at that time I stepped up from mediocre shared hosting to Media Temple’s VPS (dv) hosting.
style="line-height: 1.5em;">I’ve been happy ever since.
– Quote from href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/blog/interviews/jeff-starr-interview/">Jeff Starr Interview (Aug 27, 2013)
Matthew Evers recommends Media Temple
Just like their servers, their customer support too doesn’t have any downtime either; it’s open any day any time of the year and the average wait time for technical phone support is less than 2 minutes. When you take all these things into account, Media Temple undoubtedly offers the best value for money compared to any of its competitors. So, if you are looking for the best VPS hosting and don’t want to burn your fingers with the so called ‘cheap web hosting’, I would, without a second thought, ask you to go with Media Temple. Go, get it now!

Conclusion: Should you host at Media Temple?
My answer is: Yes and no.
Media Temple is definitely one of the best choices for experienced web developers and bloggers who need extra server stability and scalability. However, there are much cheaper options for those who are just starting out, or simply need a budget hosting solution.
