Interview with Thomas Gorny of iPage

alt="Interview with Thomas Gorny of iPage" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/default-image-500x308_c.jpg" />

iPage is an one-stop web solution provider that first established in year 1998.

href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/go/ipage" target="_blank">class="border" src="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/images/2009/1225-1.jpg" alt="iPage website" width="750px" />

The company was pretty popular in the 2000s but went inactive for the past few years. Recently, the company went thru series of restructure and is making a strong come-back (href="http://www.google.com/insights/search/#content=1&cat=13&q=ipage&cmpt=q" target="_blank">See Google Insights chart).

Sure, iPage doesn’t have strong history background like Bluehost or Hostgator; however their hosting offer are simply too good to be ignored by budget hosting finders. At this time of writing, iPage’s pricing is one of the lowest – .50/mo and they are offering anytime money back guarantee. (href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/hosting-review/ipage/">More on iPage Review here.)

If this sounds good to you, make sure you read this interview with Thomas Gorny, founder and the current top man of iPage.

Q & A with Thomas Gorny, founder of iPage

Hello, Thomas. It’s great to have you here with us! Without wasting any more time, let’s get things started with some introduction. Can you tell us more about yourself and what your role is at iPage?

Sure. My involvement with the company goes back to its roots, when the company began in 1998. The company has evolved since then, and I’m committed to building upon our success as a leading web hosting provider.

Please enlighten us more about the technology behind iPage’s hosting services. What kind of servers and networking systems are you using at iPage?

Our hosting platform consists of a pooled server architecture, which ensures website requests are fulfilled by the first machine available. This type of network infrastructure allows our customers to benefit from faster page loads, reliable uptime, and rapid email service.

I see a huge chunk of tutorials available at iPage that look extremely helpful for newbies. What other help we can expect at iPage? Please tell us more about the Customer Support Team at iPage.

In addition to providing technical assistance, we’ve trained our staff to listen carefully to customers in order to provide effective solutions. Then, after we’ve been contacted about a particular issue, we use follow-up measures to learn how well we’ve addressed it. This helps us identify areas where we can improve training for our entire Support Team, as well as the products and services themselves.

We’ve also included a QuickStart feature in the control panel that helps customers get started by taking them through domain registration, mailbox setup and the web design process.

From the website, I learned that iPage provides eco-friendly web hosting. Can you tell us how iPage has gone green?

Of course.  Since generating wind power onsite wasn’t a feasible option, we offset our energy use through the purchase of wind-generated Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs).  In other words, for every KWH of electricity we consume, we purchase an REC that’s attributed to the supply of wind energy. As a result, we’ve prevented the annual release of 2,660 metric tons of carbon dioxide in to the atmosphere.

It’s good to see iPage is tailoring a custom hosting plan for bloggers. What choices do we have in blogging and photo gallery software?

The blogging plan provides everything customers need to create a successful blog. Blog and photo gallery options are available for free installation, including WordPress, Gallery2 and more. The plan also offers a free domain for the first year, 10 email accounts, and marketing services that help customers get their feet wet with search engine optimization.

iPage provides more than just web hosting services. How can business owners leverage your products and services to start an online business? And, will it cost a lot?

We’ve structured our e-commerce selection to cover the essentials for a successful online business – a website where visitors can shop and purchase easily, with convenient, secure payment options. Between ShopSite Starter and additional open-source shopping carts available for installation, customers can create an online store at little or no cost. And PayPal is also available to customers, along with SSL certificates, so business owners can provide convenient payment options their customers can trust.

Customers can also take advantage of a free 14-day trial with Doba to expand their product offering. Doba provides access to over 1.5 million brand-name products. Customers decide which products they’d like to sell, and Doba’s suppliers manage the inventory and shipping, requiring payment only after the end customer pays.

iPage considers the Carbonite Online Backup service, free for the first year, as one of its strong selling points. Can you tell us how site backup is done at iPage with the help of Carbonite?

We can’t stress enough how important it is to back up your files, so we offer 2GB of free storage space with Carbonite, for a year. By installing the free application, customers receive an automated file backup service for their website. Carbonite searches for new and updated files, saves encrypted copies, and maintains the files so their ready to be restored should you run into trouble with your computer.

Shared hosting plans are like dedicated web hosting plans back in the year 2000. In fact, there are more and more companies offering unlimited hosting services, including iPage. Should your customers be concerned with overselling?

Our customers should not be concerned. Since our hosting and blogging plans are designed for individuals and small- to medium-sized businesses, the unlimited plans are appropriate for the intended type of use.

As we speak about shared hosting services, can you provide some shopping guidance to our readers? In your opinion, what are the important factors to look for when searching for a shared web host?

From my perspective, the most important things are my website, email and online security, so I’d look for quality website building tools, rapid email service and access to security software. When we created the iPage hosting plan, we focused on meeting customers’ needs in these key areas, offering flexible website building options, email perfected by vigorous throughput testing and an extensive security suite at no extra cost.

Where will iPage hosting be in the next five years? Is VPS or dedicated hosting in any part of the plan?

We’re constantly working on evolving our products and services, but adding VPS is not a specific focus at this time. However, based on iPage’s history, we certainly wouldn’t rule anything out.

Thank you for your time with us. Is there anything you wish to add for this interview?

Thank you. We certainly appreciate what you do for the web hosting community, and it was a pleasure to be here.

iPage FAQ

alt="iPage FAQ" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/default-image-500x308_c.jpg" />

style="line-height: 1.5em;">Introducing iPage Hosting

style="line-height: 1.5em;">iPage.comstyle="line-height: 1.5em;"> is a hosting company that focuses mainly on shared web hosting services. The name ‘iPage’ has been online for more than a decade and in their words the iPage team is lead by group of industry veterans who some of them are “founders of the industry”. It’s worth noting that the management behind iPage, Endurance International Group (EIG), currently manages more than 2 million domains (alongside with other host name) with more than 800 staffs in 6 different locations.

Important: Updates August 2013

This post was first published in April 2010, many things have changed in the past three years. For example, Endurance International Group (EIG) had spent millions and acquired half a dozen big names in hosting industry, including Hostgator, BlueHost, JustHost, Hostmonster, and so on.

Although I still recommend iPage to most budget hosting finders today, there are quite a few new things you should know before subscribing. To learn more (details such as server uptime, my recent hosting experience, latest price discounts, etc), please read my title="iPage Hosting Reviews" href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/hosting-review/ipage/">iPage Review here.

Frequent Asked Questions – All you need to know about iPage Hosting

There are a few reasons why iPage is being so popular recently. One, iPage is extremely cheap. Its .50 deal (after discount price) is one of the cheapest shared hosting deals you ever found online; and secondly, the web host is especially attractive to those who want a green hosting. iPage is a 100% green by buying renewable energy credits that offset 2,660 tons of carbon dioxide generated by operations.

In this article, we are going to check out some of the frequent asked questions on iPage.

What are my options with iPage?

iPage is all about shared hosting. The iPage Essential Plan offers unlimited hosting space, data transfer, and addon domain at a price of .50/mo.

The “unlimited terms” are pretty much the same with most other providers’ offer and you do understand the real meaning of href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.com/web-hosting-shopping/is-unlimited-hosting-a-good-deal/">unlimited web hosting, right? ;)

Do I get any trial period with iPage hosting?

Yes, iPage customers get 30 days full refund trial period upon signup. In the same time, iPage also protects its customers with Anytime Money Back Guarantee refund policy. This means if you cancel your iPage account after the first 30 days, you will still get a pro-rated refund.

Is there any differences in term of pricing for different subscription period at iPage?

No. As long as you follow href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/go/ipage">this promotion link, all iPage signups will be billed at the price of .50/mo or lower.

Can my site get hosted on a dedicated IP address at iPage?

No. Unfortunately iPage does not provide dedicated IP addresses on our platform.

Tell me more about iPage’s offer on Carbonite Online Backup.

All iPage users are entitled to 2GB of free backup with Carbonite. Carbonite is a small applications that will search and backup your files when your PC is idle. The backup files will then securely transfered and saved (as an encrypted files) to a remote data center.

Important note: Bear in mind that you will only get 2GB version for free and if you wish to do more than that you’ll need to upgrade to the unlimited version, which will cost you .95/year.

What’re the available payment methods for iPage?

You can pay iPage with credit cards (Visa, Master Card, American Express) and PayPal.

What kind of after-sales support should I expect from iPage and how helpful are the support staffs?

iPage provides customer supports via 24×7 phone, live chat and email ticketing system.

I have been testing on iPage live chat system a few times and unlike some other web hosts, the response rate from the live chat support is lighting fast. My questions were often answered in less than 2 minutes. Nevertheless, I have never tested their phone call support before thus can’t comment much on its quality.

How long does it take to have my site online at iPage ?

Your iPage account is activated instantly once the payment is done however it normally takes 24-48 hours for the DNS to propagate.

Can I host adult content on iPage?

Nope. Pornography, as well as other adult contents are strictly prohibited on iPage hosting.

Does iPage provide any free shopping carts?

Certainly – AgoraCart, ZenCart, and osCommerce.

Does iPage support Fantastico?

No, iPage does not support Fantastico. Instead, iPage builds its own auto-script installation feature named ‘Install Central’. Install Central is not as comprehensive as Fantastico but in my opinion it covers pretty much all the necessaries.

In brief, here’s the list of the scripts supported.

For example if your domain is www.mydomain.com and you can choose any name as myname@mydomain.com. To access your mailbox, you have 2 options which are to read your mail through web based mail client or download the email to your local mail client like Outlook.

Can I synchronize my email account with mobile device?

Do you recommend iPage hosting?

Yes I do recommend iPage and in fact I think it is one of the best budget hosting services you can ever get online. Read my full review about the host here: title="iPage Hosting Reviews" href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/hosting-review/ipage/">iPage Review.

Here’s a customer review on iPage (href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/go/ipage" target="_blank">http://www.ipage.com) by Bob Dickson Jr. It was first submitted as a comment to my old post about cheap web hosting last week but it’s a very useful piece of information so I decided to publish it here.

iPage Review by Bob Dickson Jr

In brief, Bob thinks iPage has some lousy customer services but he finds the web host a good budget hosting in overall.

So here goes the review.

2010-2011. I have had Ipage for close to a year now and have mixed feelings about their services and hosting. First off, though it has happened, I have had very few problems with them as far as the servers being down and/or my page not loading, but a simple refresh of my browser usually does the trick here. Sooo over all I give them “fair to good no kiss butt rating” in this area. Then again, what server isn’t down or slow for some reason or another in a given day,month,year? Think about it!

CUSTOMER SERVICE

I have used it but not to the extent of any issues resolution that resulted in satisfaction. They suck the top and bottom layer of the brown substance in this area. Tickets are days slow, Live chats for me have not resulted in any resolutions. Forget phone support, as I have waited over 10 mins before hanging up and using live chat. Reminds me of the old tech support days of DELLs hemorrhoid sore waits! Ahhhhhhaaa.

FILE MANGEMENT

Using http://ftp… seems to be reliable for me performing upload/downloads without as many timeouts and size limits. I can say that I have uploaded files using their file manager and seen size limits and timeout issues. Phabblllah!Thus the use of my own file management software.

ULIMITED DATABASE

The Database is MYSQL,(currently 5.2.1…)and DB management is /php myadmin “WHATEVER”! The database is located on a different server. You can do backups and choose to download scripts should you need to recreate a DB or table. HOWEVER, you cannot connect to your database/s and perform DB management with local DB management software!ARGH!!!!!

Mixed feelings here,I do not like it but I do! As an X- DB Programmer/script-er/applications software developer/programmer, I love MySQL PHPMyAdmin for generating some of the queries and scripts as it saves me from having to do it and debug anything that goes wrong. But!!! I hate it when I cannot use my own DB management software as I feel I have little control over my DB maintenance! Unlimited Database? I guess, I have created 5 db’s and haven’t seen Ipage kicking me in the round thingy/s saying that’s all you get!

BANDWIDTH and UNLIMITED SPACE

No problems so far! My site is not that huge as I sell photos, which is like selling condoms to an Nun, using Os Commerce (which brings up another issue). Needless to say, Though I have not tried to upload/download/display one of my 20mb photos, I have all the space I need for photos and content. The bottom line is I do not have a great turnover in clients/users in my small town so bandwidth is not an issue for me.

INTRODUCTORY PRICE

Watch out here! If you can, opt for the longest hosting term (3 or more years)at the intro price else you will fall into the abyss of what is almost a bait and switch. I set up shop for a year for around 50 bucks. When it came time to renew,I renewed my domain for 3 years. Why? In all I like Ipage spite the fact they are jerk-offs. Still, I didn’t realize I was only renewing my domain name(url) and not the hosting service(storage space)wich is an additional cost of 107.00+ other features.

Remember the intro price was for one year? When the term elapsed, the intro price went up to full price. Meaning, you have to pay for the domain renewal(currently 12.xx a year) and another years hosting at an additional(107.xx)! Plus if you want the other features such as domain privacy…that cost extra as well.

THE FREEBIES

Dont fall for the 50 dollah con advertising credits to facebook, google… that they offer unless you need to use them. They are Credits! Most likely you will have to sign up for the services and be billed later after the credits expire and you continue to use the service.

SOFTWARE FREEBIES

iPage has many features that make it look like a good deal! The so called “feature rich, free with every account” bells and whistles that look so good in the advertisement, They cost nothing for anyone to grab and use, Ipage hosting or not. Don’t let this be a factor in your decision unless you are actually looking for that software. Yes they take the headache out of the installs and basic configurations on your web, but considering they are mostly open source freeware in the first place, they do not offer tech support.

Which brings up the last comment. I am an x programmer, love tech stuff… “Ok, to a point I do!” Most newbies will spend their fist year setting up and learning to customizing their site if they want more than the basics. If you want to sell and install OSCommerce or other, be prepared to learn PHP, HTML, Javascripts. Most all the installs have their own learning curb quirks, like word press, jomallia….IPage will not help you with these unless it is an install problem. Otherwise, be prepared to spend countless hours in front of the monitor going through each freeware’s web site gazing mindlessly in the help and faqs pages for documentation and answers.

SUMMARY

I page is fair to good on cheap hosting packages for the first term. After that, be prepared to fork over some real cash if you want to keep your domain and hosting. They offer very little support to justify the cost, but contrarily the cost is justified by the unlimited features of the site. All the services except yellow pages have additional cost in one way or another. Most all the install software are open-source freeware and have both advantages and disadvantages such as using or learning curbs when it comes to using or customizing/editing the pages. Some web templates are available for quick page setup, but if you are paying for a web site just so you can put up a blog, stick with twitter, facebook, myspace…chances are you will get more exposure there than that of a private page.

The actual services and features that Ipage really offers can be described as: “Though a fair service” An empty hard drive that has the capability of accessing the internet, customarily installing certain chosen free software that can be downloaded from the internet to a specific file set or folder for the purpose of manipulation,(((storing,retrieving,sending,displaying,denying or allowing access to files))), offering certain securities of protection and reservations of selected and chosen custom name spaces for a price, and over charging for such.

– iPage Review by Bob Dickson Jr @ May 7th, 2011.
About: Bob Dickens is a freelance photographer located in the southern portion of Humphreys Co. Tennessee and has enjoyed photography for over 20 years.

I was hoping to show you Bob’s site in this review but he rejected the idea as he does not wish to have countless unrelated hits to his site. So… that’s all I have right now.

What I think about iPage hosting now?

Presently, iPage remains as my top rated budget web host. I have no complain on iPage hosting services especially in term of hosting features (like allocated bandwidth) and server stability (without surprise, that’s what Bob said as well). It’s been a while since I last contacted iPage’s support department so I have nothing to comment on that.

In case you wish to learn more about them, I suggest further reading on my detail href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/hosting-review/ipage/">iPage Review.

iPage Hosting – Coming Soon?

alt="iPage Hosting – Coming Soon?" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/ipage-500x325_c.jpg" />

Stumbled into href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/go/ipage" target="_blank">this recently.

alt="iPage - Coming Soon" src="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/images/2009/0927-1.jpg" width="750" height="518" />

iPage used to provide one-stop website design/development/hosting services. They were no longer active for quite some time but seems like something is cooking behind the curtain now. I’ll check if I can get more info about the ‘come-back’ for iPage.

Updates: Check out what’s about title="iPage Hosting Review" href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/hosting-review/ipage/">iPage here.

What’s about iPage?

iPage web services

Confession: I thought the new iPage is all about hosting when I first saw their ‘coming soon’ page. Apparently, I was wrong. iPage is a lot more than just a hosting service provider. The company provides everything you need to start a website – web hosting, website mangement, email hosting, domain registration, e-commerce services, website scripting, as well as web marketing are all supported by iPage.

iPage web hosting

Nevertheless, the core business of iPage is still web hosting. Like most web host nowadays, iPage provide unlimited shared hosting services. This means you get to host unlimited domains under one hosting account. At price of .25/mo, the standard package also comes with a free domain name and 15 products of ShopSite Shopping Cart (which is a huge plus).

For your convenience, I’ve summarized iPage hosting features at table below.

Why you should have a look on this iPage promotion

A few reason why I think this promo is a great one:

1. It’s A Great Savings The price cut, from .95/mo to .95/mo is H.U.G.E. Take 24 months subscription for example, that’s almost 0 savings. Everything you get is the same; the only different is that you will be paying much lesser than those who do not signup during this promotion period.

2. It’s (kind of ) Rare I don’t often see offer like this from iPage. In fact I was a little surprise when I noticed the huge discount. Ever since the host raised its price tag early this year, I thought the good days of cheap good hosting were (sort of) gone. Well, apparently I am wrong (for the next 24 hours). :)

So hey, in case you are looking for a budget host or you are still wondering if iPage is a go, make sure you href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.com/ipage.php">check out this iPage discount. 10 reasons why you should try out iPage Hosting

iPage is creating quite a buzz (especially in United States) with its recent relaunch. href="http://www.google.com/insights/search/#content=1&cat=13&q=ipage&cmpt=q" target="_blank">Google Insights indicates iPage-related web search interests grew for more than 89% in October (note: it’s just October 16th at this time of writing) and, apparently, the number is still rising (See graph below).

iPage Related Search Trends

Below are some positive things I see at iPage so far. You can read more about the hosting company in my title="ipage review" href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/hosting-review/ipage/">iPage review.

1. Experienced web hosting company

iPage started business back in March 1995 and the company had been hosting (as well as managing) websites worldwide since 1998. Although it was bought over by a larger company (Endurance) a few years back but still, the web company is managed by bunch of industry veterans. Summing up these facts with my recent experience with the company, I’m absolutely confidence with their ability.

2. Great hosting deals with anytime money-back guarantee

First of all, iPage offers unlimited hosting at a very cheap price. You’ll get unlimited bandwidth, unlimited disk storage, unlimited addon domain, so on and forth with all the standard ‘unlimited’ stuffs. Okay, okay, I admit that’s nothing extremely outstanding about that… But wait, iPage customers are also protected by style="text-decoration: underline;">an ‘Anytime Money-Back Guarantee’ customer satisfaction policy. Now this sounds really interesting. Gone are those days with limited 30 days or 60 days trial period. If you’re not satisfied with iPage, they’ll give you your money back. No questions asked, no time limits. Cancel at any time, and the web host promisses to issue a refund for the remainder of your current payment term.

It’s like a never-ending warranty and you bet that’s simply awesome!

3. iPage – hosting for charity

For this special Breast Cancer Awareness Month, iPage is donating for every hosting sign up. So when you’re signing up a new host for your website, you’re also doing goods for the charity.

4. Go green, go iPage

iPage is offsetting its electricity consumption with wind-generated Renewable Energy Certificates. Their data centers and offices are fully powered by green energy thus you can rest assured that your ipage-hosted websites leave no carbon footprint.

5. Exclusive offer from Carbonite and RatePoint

Another good thing about iPage is that the company forms partnerships with leaders in web services. Besides the Google and Yahoo! marketing credits mentioned earlier, iPage customers also get numerous exclusive deals with big names like RatePoint, Carbonite, VeriSign, and so on. By signing up with iPage, you’ll get 2GB Carbonite backup solution for free (great value!) and a 60 days free trial on RatePoint Newsletter Manager.

6. More than just a web host

iPage, by the way, is not just about web host. As mentioned earlier, the company offers everything a website needs – from web hosting to website mangement, email hosting, domain registration, e-commerce services, website scripting, as well as web marketing. These features are extremely convenient for business owners who wish to expand their business online (but do not have sufficient time or knowledge).

7. Free marketing credits worth 0

id="floatright">alt="iPage free marketing suite" src="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.com/images/2009/1016-3.jpg" />

At this time of writing, users get free Google Adwords credit, Yahoo! Marketing credit, Search Engine Services and free couple of other marketing services.

This ‘Marketing Suite’ alone cost 0 in money value and you can get it all free when sign up with iPage.

8. Free security features worth 0

id="floatright">alt="iPage free security suite" src="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.com/images/2009/1016-4.jpg" />

As iPage customers, you’ll get various enhanced website security features including business verification, daily malware scan, daily spam scan, constant network scanning, and the infamous SiteLock system. These features not only safeguard your website against identity thefts and hackers; they are also a good indication to your users that it’s safe to shop at your website (yeah I know, it’s more like a marketing tool sometimes).

9. New hosting technology

From what I heard, the recent relaunch isn’t just about re-branding. It’s a total revamp and you can expect more than a website change at iPage.com. If you check out their technology base, you’ll notice that they are now implementing high performance load balanced servers, multile gigabit fiberoptic connections of diverse backbones, Cisco routers with BGP4 protocol, as well as NetApp Snapshot data backups. These new hosting techs simply provide better and safer hosting environment you can’t get elsewhere.

10. Special Promotion

Lastly, and most importantly, the best reason that you should try them out is that iPage just got cheaper with my special deal with the hosting company (thanks to Paul, the key person working at iPage). Now when you href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/go/ipage" target="_blank">signup with this special promo link, iPage will just cost .50/mo for the entire subscription period and that’s more than 36% discount from the original .5/mo price.

Isn’t a good to know you can save more? :)

 href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.com/ipage.php">Special promotion link, iPage hosting – only .50/mo!

Well, that’s all about iPage for the moment!

Alright, I have threw my 10 reasons why you should test out the new href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/hosting-review/ipage/" target="_blank">iPage hosting service. Now it’s your turn. Updates On My iPage Review (2012)

alt="Updates On My iPage Review (2012)" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/ipage-500x330_c.jpg" />

A little Background Story On Previous iPage Review

class="border" alt="My iPage Review" src="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/images/2012/0724-1.jpg" width="750" />

A few years back I acquired a hosting account at iPage and href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/hosting-review/ipage/">wrote an in-depth review on it. Although I do update my iPage review from time to time; there was nothing major being re-reviewed or modified once I have fully tested the web host. My previous iPage account was left dormant and eventually expired some time ago.

Thanks to some active readers who sent me emails and Twitter messages, I picked up my lazy bones and signup myself again with a brand new iPage account*.

Yes, I spent on web hosting plus the new domain fees and did a total re-check on iPage hosting (actually no, I spent about 0 on new web hosting accounts including IX Web Hosting and A2 Hosting; but that’s story for some other day).

My 2012 Experience With iPage Hosting

Well, in general things are still all good at iPage. I do, however, have a few points (both plus and minus) to add on top of my old review. Here are a few extra good things I see in iPage during the recent signup.

iPage Is Now Serving Simple Scripts

class="border" alt="SimpleScripts at iPage" src="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/images/2012/0724-2.jpg" width="750" height="354" />

iPage is no more using the old Install Central system. Instead, Simple Scripts (created by Matt Heaton and Ben Merrill) is served and users now get to install more than 100 of popular web applications (WordPress, Joomla, MODx, QuickBooks, etc) conveniently.

Instant Account Activation With iPage Is For Real

When iPage talks about its instant account activation, it is *really* instant. I got my new account login details right after my payment; I was already done with the WordPress installation and working on the new site content within the next 10 minutes.

When you are working with 10 other different web hosts in the same time, you’ll appreciate such level of efficiency. Believe me, not many hosting companies offer such rapid service when it comes to account activation. I used to wait for days for a phone call activation even though I was paying with cash in my PayPal account.

iPage Hosting Is Extremely Cheap

Yes, I knew I have mentioned this in my old review but seriously, this is worth mentioning again and again. At .50/mo**, you get to host unlimited domain in one hosting account. Remember that the year is 2012, not 2008. While every other hosting companies I knew have raised their price in the past few years, iPage has reduced its price by 25% the least.
If you are looking for a budget host, look no further, iPage is the answer.

iPage now comes with ultra clear usage policy

Remember my href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/the-truth-about-unlimited-hosting/">post about unlimited hosting some years ago? Well, I am glad to see some hosting companies, including iPage, are no longer hiding behind such dodgy marketing tricks anymore.
The company now states clearly (a link to the policy is visible at the homepage) that it will give 48 hours of warning period (and suspend after the warning period) to the users who have exceed “normal bandwidth and disk space utilization”.

While this does not affect much of the user experience practically, I do see the company’s attitude of being honest as a positive sign (that it’s going to take good care of its customers).

Problems with iPage Hosting

Okay, enough with the trumpet blowing. Now let’s talk about some of the problems with iPage. Just like any other web hosts, iPage has its own pros and cons – hey, iPage is just another hosting company in business to make money, right? As a smart consumer, you should always know the story on both sides. My job here is to lay down all the facts about hosting at iPage – both good and bad – so you can make an informed choice.

There are a few questionable practices at iPage that you should pay attention to.

Be Careful Of iPage’s Internal Selling

class="border" alt="SimpleScripts at iPage" src="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/images/2012/0724-3.jpg" width="750" />

Frankly I do not know what to call this, I guess Internal Selling or (Inbound Marketing?) is the right phrase to use. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong. Anyway, here’s what I am trying to describe:

When you first signup with iPage, you will be “lured” into various free trials. There is a wide list of so-call Marketing Services in iPage control panel including Constant Contact, EmailBrain Small Business, Free Toll-Free Phone Number, Free YP.com Listing, Google Webmaster Tools, Y! Sponsored Search Credits, and so on. Please be aware that many of these services are only free for the trial period – you will need to pay if once the trial period has ended. Careless users who accidentally activated the trials (or forgot to cancel the services within the trial period) are forced to pay for useless services.

Expensive Renewal Fees

When you first sign up with iPage, the price is .50/mo. This is actually the special offers made possible with my special partnership with the company. Upon renewal, you will be requested to pay at the regular rate (which is relative higher, but reasonable) for your iPage account.

The regular price structures are as below.

class="border" width="100%">bgcolor="#dddddd">align="center" bgcolor="#dddddd" width="120">36-month termalign="center" bgcolor="#dddddd" width="120">24-month termalign="center" bgcolor="#dddddd" width="120">12-month termsUnited States Dollar ($) align="center" width="120">.99/moalign="center" width="120">.99/moalign="center" width="120">.99/moCanadian Dollar (CA$)align="center" width="120">CA$ 6.99/moalign="center" width="120">CA .99/moalign="center" width="120">CA $ 8.99/moAustralian Dollar (AU$)align="center">AU$ 6.99/moalign="center">AU .99/moalign="center">AU $ 8.99/moUnited Kingdom (GBP – £)align="center" width="120">£ 4.35/moalign="center" width="120">£ 4.99/moalign="center" width="120">£ 4.9/mo

You should also be aware that iPage actually stated this clearly in its billing policy and you may always check BillingCentral (inside iPage Control Panel) to get an up-to-date statement of the current amount being billed for services.

iPage Review From WHSR Readers

Before I end this updates on iPage, I would like to include this iPage review by Saskia Davis of href="http://www.symptomsofinnerpeace.net/Authors_Website/Home.html" target="_blank">Symptoms Of Inner Peace. It is a bit long, our discussion took about two weeks to conclude, and it is a very useful piece.

On June 24th, 2012, Saskia Davis wrote:

Hi Jerry,

I have appreciated your website.  This is feedback for you and a request for your input, as well.

I have spent a few days with your host reviews and recommendations. Made some calls.  Since on the basis of your reviews and my calls,  I had narrowed the field to 3, when I discovered Ipage and Fat Cow had merged, I went with Ipage.  So far, that is. I   signed up, yesterday, without first having read their terms of service.  (I never thought of it until I was creating the on-line account this morning.) Now am rethinking it.

1. Promises made by  the salesman are not born out by techs.  Techs are not prepared, as promised,  to help me upload from IWeb.  Nor was the supervisor  helpful in that regard.  However, I had the presence of mind to call the Sales Department, again.  Spoke with a different salesman from the one from whom I bought the program. He offered and
followed through with a website tutorial on how to do the upload.  He   m-a-y  have redeemed the company.  The jury is still out.

2.  Terms of service:  Their Terms of Service are very iPage-centric.   If I had gotten off to a better start with the tech department, I might not be worrying so much about the Terms of Service.  But customer has to agree to pay costs of any dispute, apparently whether or not the dispute is settled in favor of the customer.  See below:

3.  Customer must agree to auto-billing and/or charging of credit card.  When talking with the supervisor, I said I wanted to opt for the billing, not the charging of the card.  He said they were the same thing.  I had not read the terms of service before signing up.(Lesson learned)  In fact, it was hard to read them because there is no scroll mechanism; so most of the terms are below the bottom level of the screen.  I had to copy and paste them onto a document on my computer in order to read what I would be agreeing to.

4.  After receiving the unbelievable news from the supervisor that “billing” and “credit card charging” “mean the same thing”, I called the Billing Department.  When I explained that I had signed up for 3 years and that I would want the opportunity to consider my needs and the costs before my credit card was charged for the next term, she did have an alternative.  However, her alternative is not mentioned in the Terms of Service, so I will have to decide how much I trust the company to honor what one of their employees has told me.

5.  My next move will be to contact the BBB to find out if they have had complaints.

Jerry, any perspective that you can provide will be welcome at this point.

Sincerely,
Saskia Davis

On July 5th, 2012, Saskia Davis wrote:

Dear Jerry,

I worry that this feedback would be overly long for a review, but I still would consider it if you were to give me the opportunity to approve any edits.

After writing to you, the last time, I went to the Better Business Bureau site (BBB).  Although resolution had been effective, still I found far too many complaints had been filed with reviews that supported my concerns about the company not keeping its promises.  So, I decided to pay more money and go with my other choice, Web Hosting Hub, which you also had reviewed.

Their terms also included credit card auto-draft, but the BBB customer reviews, on the whole, had been positive with very few complaints and their original salesperson’s approach had sounded  more tutorial and less like a sales pitch.  I decided to trust that I could work with them. In fact, I was able to make other billing arrangements with them.

At this point it is important to say that my host search was driven by Apple’s impending end of MobileMe services. The salespeople of both hosts said that their techs could provide the information I would need to transfer my iWeb site to their service.  However the iPage tech team did not agree.  Before deciding to cancel, I tried to call the salesman back who had made that promise.  Fortunately for me, he wasn’t there.  A colleague took the call.  This is the positive thing that came out of my experience with iPage.  He provided me with the URL for a free AP with which to make the transfer. When I commented that it was a surprise to find that the salesman knew more than the techs, he replied that he had been around a long time. I might have let the help he had given me outweigh my concerns, but the BBB complaints and customer reviews tipped the balance.

The switch to WebHostingHub (WHH) would not have been smooth, might not even have been possible, without the AP to which I had been introduced by the iPage sales colleague.  The WHH tech sourced a set of instructions for another iWeb version and I did not have the technical understanding to reinterpret them for my version.  Neither did he. He seemed utterly at a loss.  The little w2w AP saved the day! At my request, the tech stayed with me while I read the instructions.  I needed him to interpret some of the techy terms.
Once I understood it, it was VERY simple.

When I returned the requested WHH tech evaluation, I included the URL for the AP.  They were not interested, replying that they could not recommend a 3rd party AP.  So, knowing that, at least for iWeb site owners, I probably can’t recommend WHH, either… that is: unless site owners find and use the AP without the recommendation of WHH.  Here is the href="http://macintoshhowto.com/internet/upload-iweb-sites-if-you-dont-have-a-mac-account.html" target="_blank">link. Once past the transfer challenge, so far, smooth sailing.  I am anticipating a positive experience.

Best, Saskia Davis

So, Is iPage Hosting Still A Go?

href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/go/ipage" target="_blank">class="border" alt="Visit iPage Online" src="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/images/2012/0724-4.jpg" width="750" />

Well as I said, my job here is to lay out all the facts and you’ll have to make your own decision (whether iPage is right for you or not). In my personal opinion, iPage is indeed a great choice for those who wants a balance between quality and price. .50/mo can merely buy you a Starbucks coffee but with that price iPage is offering you the capacity to host unlimited addon domain with 24/7 support. For those who are searching for a budget web host, iPage has all that you need. But hey, then again, that’s me – If you think you can get a better deal elsewhere, feel free to do so.

Remark *: For your reference, here’s my href="http://www.ipagereviews.co/" target="_blank">test site on the new iPage account. **: The price .50/mo is based on the price with my href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/go/ipage" target="_blank">special promotion link. Prices may be different if you order iPage independently or via other independently.

iPage Review

alt="iPage Review" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/ipage-review-500x311_c.jpg" />

The domain ‘iPage.com’ has been around for more than 10 years but it was not very well known until its recent re-launch in October 2009.

Today, iPage stands as one of the greatest successes in hosting industry – The brand took off in late 2009 and went extremely popular in just two short years, ranking top on most of the hosting review sites.

iPage and EIG: A Little Background Story

In case you are not aware, iPage is owned and managed by a group of experienced management team – the Endurance International Group (EIG). EIG has been around for more than 15 years and their hosting platform is currently holding more than 2 million domain names. The group also owns some of the biggest names in web hosting industry, including FatCow, BlueHost, HostMonster, JustHost, PowWeb, EasyCGI, StartLogic, Dot5 Hosting, VPS Link, and so on. I am not very sure on the exact numbers but I believe EIG is now the biggest web hosting/domain company on earth.

Anyway, this is just background story that does not matter that much.

As web hosting shoppers and users, who owns the company is not our main concern. What’s more important are: What iPage has to offer? And, is iPage the right hosting for you?

We are going to find out the answers in this review.

class="meteor-icon" style="font-size:130% !important;">
class="icon-calendar" style="color:inherit !important;">
 Update Feb 2016: iPage .99/mo deal remains

class="meteor-notification success icon">
class="icon-ok">class="content">

iPage price remains at .99/mo after August 2015 fluctuation (FYI the price tag jumped to .25/mo out of sudden and went back to .99/mo a week later). I have no clue why the price is changing so drastically but the host remains as my #1 budget hosting choice (despite the launching of href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/hosting-review/ehost/">another EIG brand eHost). If you are looking for a really cheap web host, now is the best time (see below to find out why iPage is my #1 budget hosting choice).

What Makes iPage Better Than The Rest?

There are couple of different factors that make iPage one of the best budget hosting in the market.

One key factor that beats all other shared hosting companies is: Price.

iPage = Cheapest Hosting Service

After testing and using more than 30 web hosting services, I realized something very important: Most budget shared hosting providers actually offer more or less the same hosting features (unlimited hosting, free domain name, webmail, 24×7 supports, etc etc) and quality of service (North American based supports, 99% server uptime, etc etc).

As we are getting the same hosting features eventually, the cheaper the deal the better (provide that the host comes with reliable server uptime and satisfying customer service), right?

You bet! This is why I think iPage is awesome. iPage hosting offers what most other shared hosting providers offer (in term of both quality and features), but it is 76% to 450% cheaper than the others. The Truth Behind iPage Unlimited Hosting

class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-13055" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/ipage-unlimited-hosting-750x380.jpg" alt="ipage unlimited hosting" width="750" height="380" srcset="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/ipage-unlimited-hosting.jpg 750w, http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/ipage-unlimited-hosting-300x152.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" />

As a smart consumer, you should understand some marketing gimmicks that are commonly used by hosting companies. The term unlimited hosting is nothing more than a marketing slogan.

Truth is, there is no unlimited hosting in this world – nothing is unlimited on this earth (if you want to learn more about this, read my article: href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/the-truth-about-unlimited-hosting/" target="_blank">The Real Meaning Of Unlimited Hosting).

Take our case, iPage, for example: Yes, iPage allows you to host unlimited addon domain in your hosting account; but it’s only “unlimited” ifyou are not exceeding the CPU resources allocated to your account. If you exceed certain level of CPU usage (which normally won’t), iPage will have your hosting account suspended.

Quoted From iPage TOS

How much disk space and bandwidth will my plan include?

There are no set limits on the disk space or data transfer (bandwidth) that we provide in our hosting plans. We want you to have the resources you need to build a great online presence, and 99.95% of all customers will have more than enough disk space and bandwidth to meet their needs. That being said, we do require all customers to be fully compliant with our Terms of Service and utilize disk space and bandwidth in the normal operation of a personal or small business website. While it is rare, we may need to put constraints on accounts that are using resources beyond what would be expected in the normal operation of a personal or small business website.

Typically, customers only run into issues if they use their accounts for storage or file sharing, which is not what our services are intended to support. In accordance with our Terms of Services the disk space and bandwidth you use must be integrated into the normal operation of your website.

What happens if I exceed “normal” usage?

If we have concerns about your account’s bandwidth or disk space utilization, you will receive an email asking you to reduce usage. Generally, we provide customers with a minimum of 48 hours to make adjustments before taking the account offline. Again, the most common situations involve customers who use their accounts for storage of files—particularly multimedia files—that are not linked off of their websites. It is very rare for a customer who is managing a personal or small business website to exceed normal usage.

Unlimited hosting is limited. This is commonly understood by most experienced webmasters. And, as quoted above, it is clearly written in iPage TOS that the company’s hosting is only unlimited under normal usage. So please don’t be naïve and believe that iPage is going to supply unlimited hosting power to your .99/mo account.

That said, however, my 3+ years experience with iPage was quite a happy one. Read on to find out more about my personal experience at iPage.

My Experience With iPage Web Hosting

style="line-height: 1.5em;">My journey with iPage started in the early days when the new management took over and refurbish the company in late 2009. style="line-height: 1.5em;">I have purchased iPage twice in the past – one in early 2010 and one in 2012. I still own one of the accounts today and I am hosting three websites on it.

My experience with iPage, in short, is positive.

In general, iPage is one of my top recommendations for those who want cheap web host – the web host’s price tag is extremely cheap and its server is performing better than average according to my record. Note that I am not saying iPage is the best web host; but I do believe it is the best option for those who are looking for a cheap hosting option.

The ordering process at iPage was really smooth. In both of my purchases in the past, my accounts were ready in the next few minutes after I made  payment. You ought to think hosting companies that charge such a cheap price is inefficient most of the time, however truth is iPage works exceptionally well in this part. You can literally get a new site up and operating on iPage within the first hour (neglecting the time that you need for domain propagation).

Good Uptime Record

Furthermore, I am also happy with iPage server performance in term of uptime and server response speed. I know, you might read some complaints on iPage from time to time and wonder why I am rating the web host that good. Well for one, I do not put up illogical expectation – we are paying such a small fees for an iPage hosting account, it’s insane to expect the web host to provide the same kind of service we get at InMotion or WP Engine. Secondly, iPage has hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of customers – it is guaranteed that someone will be unhappy about something and went bad mouth on the web host. You just can’t please everyone when you are this big.

iPage Uptime Review

I have been tracking two iPage-hosted sites for more than two years. At time of writing, the uptime score for the past 30 days (see image) is 100% – which IMO, not bad at all for a budget host selling at less than /mo.

iPage Server Speed Test (New)

We added a new test in our review process recently and started tracking web host server speed. In this test, we ping our test sites are from 8 different locations (using a tool named href="http://www.bitcatcha.com/" target="_blank">Bitcatcha) worldwide and compare the response times with over 10 million websites.

Test Score: B+, Good

For our test site hosted on iPage, the server response speed (as per February 2016) is rated as B+ with responsed time of 72 and 27 milliseconds for United States servers and 196 milliseconds for London servers. We think this result is pretty good as there are only two other budget hosts (below /mo) that score as high as B+ in our test so far. Detail results are shown in the following image.

id="attachment_17696" style="width: 760px" class="wp-caption aligncenter">class="wp-image-17696 size-full" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/ipage-feb-2016-speed.jpg" alt="ipage feb 2016 speed" width="750" height="200" srcset="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/ipage-feb-2016-speed.jpg 750w, http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/ipage-feb-2016-speed-300x80.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" />class="wp-caption-text">iPage server speed from 8 different test points. iPage Hosting – What’s Good About It?

To summarize, here’s the quick list on what we like and dislike about the iPage hosting.

  • Extremely Cheap (iPage = Cheapest Shared Hosting!) As mentioned above, if you are searching for the Best Budget Web Hosting, iPage will be surely come into your radar. Fact is, iPage is extremely cheap. And not that only it is cheap; it’s also reputable and reliable. So if you want a good host at an affordable price, iPage hosting is a go!
  • User Friendly And Extremely Smooth Ordering Process iPage is perhaps the most newbie-friendly web host. I have purchased iPage twice in the past and both processes were nothing but pleasure. The account setup process was idiot-proof and the ordering process was very smooth. My hosting accounts were ready minutes after payment.
  • Eco-Friendly Hosting According to iPage official website, its hosting operation is fully powered by renewable energy. (Unfortunately, I have no proof on this point – I have no idea where does the company purchase its green energy certificates nor how much it purchased in the past.)

class="meteor-icon" style="font-size:130% !important;">
class="icon-remove-circle" style="color:inherit !important;">
iPage Hosting – The Not So Good

  • Lack Of Server Upgrade Option Like WebHostingHub, Pow Web, FatCow, and many other budget shared hosting providers; iPage offers nothing but shared hosting services. Although the Essential Hosting Plan is often more than enough for start-up websites; users who wish to go VPS or dedicated servers will have to go elsewhere. Server upgrade is no longer an issue with iPage as the company started offering VPS and dedicated hosting about a year ago. Thanks to Dylan Harty for pointing this out, you can read more about his review on iPage VPS hosting below.
  • Unnecessary Software Offer When you first signup with iPage, you will be “lured” into various free trials. There is a wide list of so-call Marketing Services in iPage control panel including Constant Contact, Email Brain Small Business, Free Toll-Free Phone Number, Free YP.com Listing, Google Webmaster Tools, Y! Sponsored Search Credits, and so on. Please be aware that many of these services are only free during trial period – you will need to pay if once the trial period has ended (I am guessing that iPage earn referral fees in this). Careless users who accidentally activated the trials and forgot to cancel the services within the trial period will need to pay for these services.

Update April 2015: iPage VPS Hosting User Review

Note from Jerry: This part of the review is written by an existing iPage VPS Hosting user, Dylan Harty. I first connected with Dylan when he emailed me and pointed out some mistake in this page. After some discussion we decided to add more value to this review, hence his feedback on iPage VPS Hosting. As far as I know, Dylan is not affiliated with iPage in any way. I do, however, paid for his effort in writing this helpful review.

To iPage users – Good news is you don’t have to worry about out-growing your shared hosting at iPage these days as VPS and dedicated hosting are now in your option list. In case you were considering an upgrade or switching over to iPage VPS Hosting, this is a must-read.

Quick Intro

Hello, my name is Dylan Harty and I have been a part of the online hosting community since I was eight years old. My passion is everything web and OS based. You can find me at soulstice.ca helping to support the people that need it. I have used Ipage shared hosting for most of my major projects, including freelance work. I am a PHP developer so I chose iPage’s shared hosting because the PHP.INI is editable unlike most shared hosting providers.  Shared hosting is great, but does not always have the resources that you need.  This brings me to the next topic of, iPage’s VPS hosting.

I have been hosted on iPage’s VPS platform since it was released for purchase. The date would have been around October 2013.

They are highly affordable.  The lowest grade VPS server costs only /mo for the first 24 months.  I bought the “business” plan and it has not given me any trouble.

class="border aligncenter wp-image-13054 size-large" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/ipage-vps-hosting--750x396.jpg" alt="ipage vps hosting" width="750" height="396" srcset="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/ipage-vps-hosting-.jpg 750w, http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/ipage-vps-hosting--300x158.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" />

What I like the most about iPage VPS Hosting

Pros:

class="row-fluid">class="span6">
  • Very affordable
  • 24-7 VPS/dedicated server support line.
  • Very helpful support team able to use SSH.
  • Ability for the server to be completely un-managed.
  • Server completely managed included, no extra fees.

class="span6">
  • Good support ticketing system
  • Up-Time(99.89+)
  • Included cPanel and WHM
  • Competitive server hardware
  • No restrictions like shared hosting
  • No overcharge for bandwidth
  • Ability to run a source server

Very helpful support team able to use SSH: Coming from shared hosting this was a surprise, the support teams actually knows about servers! I have asked some of the technicians on duty very high level questions and they are able to answer them thoroughly.  Also most of the VPS/Dedicated support members are located in the USA.

Ability for the server to be completely un-managed: Ipage started a revolution in VPS hosting; no more fees for management. This saves me money that I do not need to spend. Other VPS hosting providers charge a lot of money for server support and maintenance, a service that Ipage does for free. A good example is: I can call in on the phone and ask the support team to help address server issues without being charged or sold a service.

No overcharge for bandwidth: I noticed on most VPS sites you get a fixed amount of bandwidth then you must pay fees. I feel this type of fee is unfair for the person renting the server. The whole time I have been with Ipage VPS hosting I have never been charged extra fees. I asked a support member if they charge above a certain level of bandwidth, their response was “We do not charge client’s when they are over their bandwidth for the month. We do however monitor the bandwidth once the client is passed their threshold.”  I can live with that. No random charges to my credit card, server/website is still up, so I am happy.

Ability to run a source server: My favorite. I decided to transform this VPS into a gaming server for a little while. It was not easy. If you guys want an Ipage VPS source server howto that is for another time. Furthermore countless hours later of remotely upgrading the OS and help from the support team (even though they said they really cannot help me) I got a GMOD server up. No lag with 20 spots, which looking at other gaming servers saves a person lots of money!

What I dislike the most about iPage VPS hosting

Cons:

The odd support hiccup: Ok Ipage does not always have flawless support, I have to mention this. On occasion you will get a guy in training or some support member with little server experience.  How do I fix this problem? I hang up and dial again. If the same guy picks up I wait and try again. Important: Only VPS/Dedicated server clients get to use this support phone number: 1(877)447-9872. Do not call shared hosting support line; they usually do not know what they are talking about.

(Rare) downtime for DDOS attacks and such: Just like any hosting provider Ipage datacenters also get attacked. They had an attack about 4 months ago that took their servers down for 2 days. When I asked support what happen, they avoided the subject but stated “new technology is in place to stop or lessen these types of attacks.”

Some servers have a soft boot on initial registration: I believe this is fixed now, but it could still happen to you. If you try to access your VPS server and it does not seem to be starting correctly or it gets stuck in a boot loop (soft boot) call the support number I gave you above. They should have it fixed in a matter of hours, as they can reboot it at the datacenter. This is just a problem with their default server image file.

Dedicated servers take 12-48 hours to set-up: VPS servers from Ipage get set-up usually in the matter of 2 hours. When I bought a dedicated server from Ipage when they were first released it took a good two days to get it set-up correctly. It was not a fun time; they did not know what was going on. So I now stick to VPS hosting from Ipage. Although that was over a year ago now, by all means give it a try as you can always downgrade to a VPS.

Preinstall of CentOS 6.4-6.5 only: Most VPS hosting providers give the client a few options when they purchase a new server. Ipage servers come “as is”, so you can only run CentOS 6.x. On a side note you can upgrade the OS remotely, but is not supported by support.

Should you go with iPage Hosting?

Now, what I think about iPage doesn’t matter.

Key question: Is iPage the right web host for you?

Given that there are both pros and cons; negative and positive reviews on the Internet; should you still go with iPage hosting? The decision is yours to be made.

iPage Shared = Best Budget Hosting

style="line-height: 1.5em;">iPage is truly the *Best Budget Hosting* in my book – it is not the best web host (for sure!); but it is the best option if you are looking for a cheap hosting solution.

style="line-height: 1.5em;">For those who are just starting out and building first website – iPage is the perfect spot to start with – as the cost is extremely low and signup process is very easy. You can’t find any web host offering the same hosting features and server performance at this low price (.99/mo under WHSR’s exclusive deal).

iPage VPS = Suitable for uses with any skill level

For those who are considering iPage VPS Hosting, here’s what Dylan’s recommendation –

A user of any skill level can use Ipage VPS/Dedicated hosting. I say this because the support team is really good at helping when you are stuck on a problem, no matter how fluent you are on a server. Professionals can use these servers and novices can learn a lot from the support members. I will not be changing my VPS hosting anytime soon. Ipage you have a satisfied customer. Keep up the good work.
