Web Hosting Uptime Review (March 2014)

I’ll be updating web host uptime record in blogpost format on monthly basis starting March onwards. I thought this could be useful for those who are looking for a new hosting service. In case you have questions or simply need more details, please do not hesitate to reach out.

99.9% Uptime Host

In term of uptime score, InMotion Hosting (99.99%) was the best for the past 30 days with FatCow (99.98%), SiteGround (99.9%), BlueHost (99.9%), and Rose Hosting (99.89%) coming very close at second, third, fourth, and fifth spot. It was a pleasant surprise to see two Endurance brands, FatCow and BlueHost, making into the top 5 this month. While their past uptime record was okay; I didn’t expect both hit the below-5-minutes downtime mark in 30 days. Well done!

The test site above is hosted on InMotion’s Launch Package (shared hosting) and I have been holding this hosting account since 2009.

FYI, I no longer hold a hosting account at FatCow, the site I am tracking currently belongs to a business partner.

Lead by Tenko Nikolov, the company now serves than 250,000 domains worldwide with 120 employees and three data centers located at US, Europe, and Singapore. The test site above is a personal blog and it’s hosted on SiteGround’s shared hosting facility.

I used to be a BlueHost fan boy but thought that they had lost the magic touch ever since the CPU throttling feature was introduced. Nevertheless, the web host made it to the top 5 this month in term of uptime – so congrats! I’m still working on the review on RoseHosting but you can, however, enjoy a recurring 25% discount on their shared and VPS hosting plans using coupon code ‘WHSR’. So far the web host is passing the uptime test with flying colors; attached is the uptime chart for Rose Hosting for the past 30/7/1 day(s) – you can see that they are pretty reliable and consistent.

February/March Worst Uptime: HostMonster – 98.68%

HostMonster’s (href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/go/hostmonster" target="_blank">http://www.hostmonster.com/) low uptime record is mainly due to an internal server error (I have no idea what happened) that occurred last Sunday. The test site went down for more than 9 hours in the midnight and went back online by itself in the morning.

My HostMonster account is expiring this May and I am considering to cancel my subscription and stop tracking the host. In case you have a site hosted on HostMonster and would let us to track your site uptime, please get in touch.
