How to Improve Your Blog Search Ranking in Bing

alt="How to Improve Your Blog Search Ranking in Bing" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/default-image-500x308_c.jpg" />

class="border" src="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.com/images/2011/1207-1.jpg" alt="BING Search Engine" />

The vast majority of SEO discussions focus on how to rank well in Google (href="http://www.Google.com" target="_blank">http://www.google.com), and with good reason. Google is unquestionably the king of search, and there is a good chance things will stay that way for quite some time. That said, Bing (href="http://www.bing.com/" target="_blank">http://www.bing.com) is having a strong impact on the industry, and it can no longer be ignored by anybody who takes SEO seriously.

Now that Bing controls the Yahoo! search results as well, it means that they control at least 30 percent of the search market. In other words, nearly a third of people are now looking at Bing’s search results, not Google’s. Therefore, if you properly optimize your site to deal with both Google and Bing, you could see almost a 50 percent increase in your traffic over focusing just on Google.

Fortunately, you don’t have to completely overhaul your SEO efforts in order to rank well in Bing. Most of the factors that improve a site’s rankings are the same in both search engines. That said, there are some important differences that you can’t ignore if you want to capture as much search traffic as possible.

Editorial Links

The first important difference is the relevance of editorial links. An editorial link is a link from within the content of an article. Many SEO experts have already pointed out that Google now places a stronger emphasis on these types of links than other types of links such as Blogrolls, comments, link directories, and similar links. But Bing places an even stronger emphasis on these types of links.

This doesn’t mean that other links don’t matter, but it does mean that if you want to rank well in Bing, you better have a strategy for getting contextual links. This isn’t going to happen by spamming the Internet with comment links or buying links in the sidebar. You’ll need to write guest posts, use link baiting techniques, and find other ways to attract links from the content of articles.

One easy way you can increase your number of editorial links is to start an article marketing campaign. This can be as simple as writing some short (300-500 words) articles and including your links within the body. Be careful though – you won’t improve your ranking with Bing if you just throw your link in the article over and over again. Your article needs to make sense, and your links should be worked in naturally in a way that doesn’t interrupt the flow of the article or make it sound contrived.

Press Release

Press releases are another great way to get editorial links. If your company or website is doing something newsworthy (like launching a new product, donating to a charity, or hosting an event), then write about it in a press release and include a link back to your website. If you have the budget available, there are a number of good press release distribution services out there (like PRWeb.com) that will send out your release for you. You can also distribute your press release manually if money is an issue. A good press release can get picked up by thousands of other websites and news sources, which can result in a ton of good editorial links pointing back to your website.

Do Not Buy Links

Whatever you do, though, do not buy links from link brokers or other websites that sell links in bulk. Bing (and other search engines) frowns upon this practice and will actually punish you for purchasing links with a worse ranking. The best kinds of links to get are organic links that you acquire naturally using effective link-building strategies like the ones we just talked about. If you suddenly acquire 100 new links overnight, Bing will get suspicious and could penalize you.

Domain Name

Another factor that seems to have relevance is the href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/web-hosting-beginner-guide/">domain name. While having the keyword in your domain matters a lot for Google, it matters even more for Bing. There is some debate about whether an exact match domain is more important than a good brand name, and this will depend as much on your own business strategy as anything else. Nevertheless, realizing that this factor is even more important for results in Bing is an important thing to keep in mind while you make this decision.

Content Freshness

Finally, Bing seems to have a stronger emphasis on content. A page can rank well in Google even if there is almost no content on the page. This doesn’t appear to be the case with Bing. The search engine prefers to rank pages that have a lot of content on them. Even if a page has a large number of high quality links pointing toward it, Bing may refuse to rank it well if it doesn’t have very much content on it.

It’s a good idea to add fresh, unique content to your website on a regular basis anyway, in order to attract visitors and give them a reason to keep coming back to your website, and if this will help your Bing rankings too then that’s just icing on the cake. If you find that you have trouble creating your own content, you can find ghostwriters and freelance bloggers on job auction sites like Guru.com and Elance.com that will create content for you at an affordable rate.

As with Google, the most important ranking factor for Google is links. While the domain name and the amount of content on the page are both important, the difference in links is the most important factor that will improve your rankings in Microsoft’s search engine.

4 Ways to Improve the Mobile Version of Your WordPress Theme

alt="4 Ways to Improve the Mobile Version of Your WordPress Theme" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/0514-1-500x254_c.jpg" />

class="alignright size-full wp-image-932 border" alt="Mobile Version WordPress" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/0427-1.jpg" width="300" height="450" srcset="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/0427-1.jpg 300w, http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/0427-1-200x300.jpg 200w" sizes="(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" />

Let’s face the truth, mobile devices are getting more and more popular. Desktop browsing is not growing anymore,  it’s decreasing actually, while mobile is growing fast with all those awesome smart phones and tables out there.

According to Net MarketShare, mobile devices represent 10% of the total web traffic. It’s a big figure, and it’s even bigger in some niches and countries. But the important thing here is the special attention that mobile devices require, because of the limited screen space and the fact that mobile connections are usually slower than desktop connection.

A lot of WordPress themes are responsive but you know, we’ll always have room for improvements. So here we’ll see 4 technologies and ways to use them in order to improve the mobile experience for your users.

#1 Ol’ Media Types

A few years back, when IE5.5 and IE6 were considered alive, mobile browsers were just starting to popping out (and Opera was by far the best one), and people started to realize that things were just breaking since phones back then just couldn’t process simple things like CSS (not to mention JS, flash and so on).

So, doing a completely separated mobile site was the only option when the media types came to save us. The idea was simple, you could tell the browser if the file that you are providing is “advanced” CSS rules (for desktops) or simple CSS rules (for handheld or print). The syntax is as simple as this:

<link rel="stylesheet" href="handheld.css" type="text/css" media="handheld" />

This can be a good option to create a completely different design for your mobile site. But you just shouldn’t use it.

Media types may sound good at first but a simple problem came with modern smart phones: the lack of browser support. Most major players out there were just ignoring this kind of functionality (like apple)
Then media queries come to save us.

#2 Media Queries and how to really improve mobile experience

This is by far the most popular way to create a mobile version of your site.

You can target certain points based on a rage of browser size, device screen size, pixel density (yeah, retina!), and even media types.

Here is a simple media query:

@media (max-width: 700px) {
body { background: red; }
}

This is pretty much the same as programming. IF “browser width is 700 or lower”, THEN “apply the following CSS code”.

Child Theme

Let’s create a new folder in your /themes and name it twentyMobile. I know, twenty twelve already uses media queries, but we’re here to learn, aren’t we?

So, create a style.css file and add this content:

/*
Theme Name: mobile theme
Template: twentytwelve
*/
@import url(“../twentytwelve/style.css”);

@media handheld, only screen and (max-width: 767px){
nav ul { display: none;}
nav select {display:block}
}

Above we created the child theme CSS and also we’ve added a rule that will target only mobile devices, that will hide the main menu and show a select. So if you have a menu in a select you could save a lot of space instead of displaying it as ul / li items

#3 Extreme makeover with jQuery Mobile

jQuery mobile is an awesome framework that uses jQuery functionality to improve mobile experience, with optimized widgets and UI elements.

The HTML needed o make it work is quite simple, it just uses the HTML data attributes to and JS to detect and create UI widgets.

But in order to make the jQuery Mobile work properly in your WordPress blog you’ll need to call the jQuery mobile script first. Getting back to our child theme, duplicate main theme’s header.php file and add these lines in the head tag:

<link rel="stylesheet" href="http://code.jquery.com/mobile/1.3.1/jquery.mobile-1.3.1.min.css" />
<script src="http://code.jquery.com/mobile/1.3.1/jquery.mobile-1.3.1.min.js"></script>

I should mention that for commercial proposes you should use wp_enqueue _script, so you’ll avoid duplicating libraries in your site.
Now we can play around with pretty much any UI element you want. jQuery mobile has a lot of UI widgets that you can use in a theme, but let’s apply the page and collapsible panels.
This is the basic HTML syntax:

<div data-role=“page”>
<div data-role=“header”></div>
<div data-role=“content”></div>
<div data-role=“footer”></div>
</div>

With this code you’ll create a new “page” and the header, content and footer areas. The header and footer are fixed, and the content will change based on current page, so you can load multiple pages once and just hide them by assigning different IDs.
This is the basic HTML for collapsible panels:

<div data-role=“collapsible-set”>
<div data-role=“collapsible-set” data-collapsed=“true”>
<p>Collapsible area content</p>
</div>
</div>

It’s quite simple to implement a loop there, isn’t it? Well, your code will look like this:

<div data-role="collapsible-set">
<? while ( have_posts() ){
...
?>
<div data-role="collapsible" data-collapsed="true"></div>

<?
...
}
?>
</div>

The select menu revised

With the code we’ve seen above (in the media queries section) you could hide your usual menu and show a special select menu. jQuery allows you to add it without much PHP code (to be honest we won’t need PHP at all). Let’s create a new file and add this code there:

jQuery(function($){
    //when the DOM is ready
    $(document).ready(function(){
        // let’s create the select element
        $("<select />").appendTo("nav");
        //With the new option, go to…
            $("<option/>", {
                "value" : "",
                "text" : "Go to…"
            }).appendTo("nav select");
    });

    //Now we have the select created let’s populate it:
    $("nav .menu a").each(function(){
        // for each LINK you find in the menu
        var aux = $(this);
        $("<option />",
        {
            "value" : aux.attr("href"),
            "html" : aux.text();
        }).appendTo("nav select"); // append a new item to the select
    )};

    //then we set the dropdown functionality to redirect when we select a new item
    $("nav select").change(function(){
        window.location = $(this).find("option: selected").val();
    });

});

Doing this will create a new mobile menu, BUT the problem is, we’re loading jquery mobile even in the “normal” version of the site. That’s why we can use also a few plugins to help us improving our site.

#4 – Wrapping everything up with Mobile Detector

This awesome plugin creates a new functionality that allows us to conditionally load themes depending on user device. And it works with simple conditional rules, like this:

<?php
if(MobileDTS::is(‘android’)){
....
} elseif(MobileDTS::is(‘mobile’)){
....
} else {
}
?>

The MobileDTS method checks current device then returns a simple true / false. Then we can use a magic function called switch_theme( ) to set a new theme, and you can use plugin conditionals like MobileDTS::is_switcher_enabled() to create a link to a desktop version when using mobile, for instance.

Conclusion

So, have you ever used mobile plugins or functions in your WordPress theme? Which method do you prefer? Don’t be shy and share your thoughts!

5 Apps and Strategies to Improve Your Social Media Productivity

alt="5 Apps and Strategies to Improve Your Social Media Productivity" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/social-media-marketing-500x486_c.jpg" />

Showing up on social media is no longer optional; an active presence on the channels where your customers hang out is crucial to finding new prospects, href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/blog/featured-articles/how-to-build-a-long-term-successful-social-media-campaign/">establishing yourself as an authority, and deepening relationships with existing clients.

But finding the time to do it all is really hard.

A rel="nofollow" href="http://www.emarketer.com/Article.aspx?R=1008327" target="_blank">recent study from EMarketer shows that 73% of people find creating content is their biggest marketing challenge.  Other issues arise around scheduling content, responding to inquiries, and basic account maintenance.  Assuming that outsourcing your social media isn’t an option, here are 5 apps and strategies that can help you get organized and stay on top of your social media flow.

Scheduling posts in advance

Recommended app: Buffer

style="text-align: center;">class="border aligncenter" alt="Get Productive With Your Social Media Marketing Campaign" src="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/images/2013/0115-1.jpg" width="750px" height="254" />

Strategy: Set up your posts and status updates to post automatically, in advance.

Changing your relationship with time and social media is one of the best ways to get traction without having to panic about having access to Twitter and Facebook three times a day to post content.  Before we dive into the specific tools that can help you, let’s look at what this really means.  Scheduling your posts isn’t just about adding a post to WordPress the day before it’s set to go live.

Really changing the time – social media relationship is about href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/blog/web-business-ideas/how-popular-websites-use-high-posting-frequencies-to-succeed/">anticipating, planning, preparing, and deploying content before there’s a content crunch or before there’s a noticeable gap. Do you have a content strategy (link to other post once it’s live)? One of the best ways to handle scheduling your content is to develop an editorial calendar. This can focus on a single channel such as your blog or the themes you’ll focus on via Twitter.  Or it can be a vast document that encompasses everything from your blog posts to your email outreach to external publishing efforts.  The goal is to find a system that keeps you on target without overcomplicating the process.

Once you’ve sketched out a plan, the other key to success is scheduling the time to generate the content.  It’s important to figure out how to effectively manage your time around content creation.  There are many options: outsource; create blocks of time where you focus exclusively on content generation for 3 or 4 hours at a stretch; or dedicate 30 minutes a day to the process. Whatever works for you, figure out and stick to it.

There are a whole host of programs out there that will allow you to do this with ease.  rel="nofollow" href="http://hootsuite.com/" target="_blank">Hootsuite, rel="nofollow" href="http://bufferapp.com/" target="_blank">Buffer, and rel="nofollow" href="http://www.tweetdeck.com/" target="_blank">Tweetdeck are great examples.  Here is how they work.  You input your account details, preload the content, and tell the program when to post it.  Then your account has a heartbeat – content – without you needing to take another step (until it’s time to upload the next tranche of content).

Getting Started With Buffer

For purposes of this article, I’m going to recommend that you consider going with Buffer.  It’s one of the most natural tools, in that it doesn’t schedule in bursts and user feedback suggests that a broad range of people from social media experts to regular small business users love the program.

style="text-align: center;">class="border aligncenter" alt="Get Productive With Your Social Media Marketing Campaign" src="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/images/2013/0115-2.jpg" width="750px" height="257" />

style="text-align: center;">class="border aligncenter" alt="Get Productive With Your Social Media Marketing Campaign" src="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/images/2013/0115-3.jpg" width="750px" height="241" />

Here’s a quick tutorial on how to use it.

  1. Visit rel="nofollow" href="http://www.bufferapp.com">www.bufferapp.com.
  2. Create a new account by entering an email address and password of your choice, and selecting “Create New Account.”  A window will then open that allows you to install an extension to your browser.
  3. Click the orange “Install in Seconds” button.  Go through the brief, intuitive install process.
  4. Connect each of your accounts to Buffer.  You then are able to post in real time by typing something in the box and clicking “Post Now.”  To schedule something for later, click the “Add to Buffer.”  You’ll receive the confirmation screen advising you of when Buffer elected to schedule it for.  This random timing (in my case, 8:51am EST tomorrow morning) is meant to feel organic and avoid bursts of content that tend to occur with awkward scheduling.

So install Buffer (or one of the other recommended apps if you prefer) and experiment.  See how much more active you are with tools like Buffer working on your behalf 24/7.

Blocking time in your day for social media – then leaving it

Recommended tool: Your calendar

Strategy: Stop wasting time on social media by specifically scheduling time.

Another factor that contributes to the idea of social media as a time suck is that we can be on it – literally all day.  We go about our days with Facebook open in our browser.  We check our Twitter feed on our phone while waiting in line.  That’s fine when you’re following vacation pictures from your best friend’s trip or watching everyone’s reactions to the latest game.

But when your social media use transitions to a marketing strategy or part of your business, schedule it the way you’d schedule any other activity.  Hopefully you’re already using an app discussed above to preschedule your content, so block out a maximum of 30 minutes a day to add any breaking news content, respond to comments, etc.

There are a few ways to do this. Use your social media time as a way to ease into your day.  Or check in at the end of the day, and catch up on all the day’s news.  If you are a bit more of a junkie, preschedule 3 10 minute sessions throughout your day (morning, afternoon, end of day) where you get to interact.

Use the rapid fire approach.  The goal here is not to aim for 30 minutes and then be happy when it’s 60.  The goal is to transform your understanding of what it means to be productive on social media by taking massive action and getting massive results within the allotted time.  In order to do this, you need to triage priority messages. Consider having lists within specific sites that highlight your Most Important People (MIPs).  Your MIPs can be personal, such as family and friends, or they can be high value professional contacts such as business partners, clients, or thought leaders in your field. Start with your MIPs and then allocate whatever time is left over to your general stream.

To keep yourself honest, schedule your 30 minutes between hard appointments that will force you to stop.  If your schedule is more fluid, use a timer that will shriek and remind you that you should be done. If technology or calendaring won’t work, consider using an accountability partner that will pry the laptop/mobile phone/iPad from your fingers until you learn to be honest about the time you’re spending on social media.

Save content ideas easily

Recommended App: Evernote

style="text-align: center;">class="border aligncenter" alt="Get Productive With Your Social Media Marketing Campaign" src="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/images/2013/0115-4.jpg" width="750px" height="331" />

Strategy: Reduce the amount of time it takes to write content by organizing your systems for tracking ideas and inspiration

If you haven’t used rel="nofollow" href="http://www.evernote.com" target="_blank">Evernote, your life is about to change.

Evernote is a program that allows you to add notes, take photographs and tag them by keyword, and more.  This means that from a simple handheld device, you can create an evolving database of your best ideas, inspiration you encounter, real time whiteboard brainstorms, and more. You can then share these ideas via various social media channels, or call them up when you are drafting your next tranche of content.

Evernote and its place in our strategy are important for a couple of reasons.  Feeding the content beast is one of the biggest issues with maintaining an active social media presence.  It can be a huge time sink, even if it’s carefully planned out.  One of the major aspects in the process is to ensure that as you encounter ideas when you’re reading, working or in conversation that you can efficiently recall those when you sit down to write content or generate lists for your freelance writers to work on.

Here’s how Evernote works.  You begin by downloading the app to your phone.  You’re then able to snap photos with your built in camera.  When the photograph is taken, you’re able to add titles and keywords which can later be searched as well as the possibility to add to folder, etc.  For a complete tutorial on Evernote, rel="nofollow" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHeVZvnCjNA" target="_blank">check out this video tutorial.

If this, then that with ifttt

Recommended App: Ifttt

style="text-align: center;">class="border aligncenter" alt="Get Productive With Your Social Media Marketing Campaign" src="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/images/2013/0115-6.jpg" width="750px" height="313" />

Strategy: Automate routine tasks related to archiving, notifications, and more

rel="nofollow" href="http://ifttt.com/wtf" target="_blank">Ifttt is a fascinating program that allows you to set triggers (if this happens) that set off actions (then do this).  So for example, you might say “if someone tags me in a photograph on Facebook, then send me a text message.”  Or “If I add a new file to Evernote, then email it to my assistant.”  Ifttt essentially creates the ability for you to automate non-linear streams of your social media work process, similar to a macro in Excel.  If there are steps you take every time something happens, with Ifttt, you might be able to let the program do that work for you.

Personally, I use Ifttt to help me with some of the cross-platform activities.  So for example, as you browse your Twitter feed you might find motivational quotes that you like and later want to use in a different context. One way to keep track of them is to Favorite them; but using Ifttt, you can set up a trigger where anytime you favorite a quote on Twitter, you can have it added to a file on your Dropbox or a list in Evernote.

Another way to use Ifttt is to help you track priority information or discussions happening in social media.  For example, if anyone on a selected list of people tags you in a post, tags you in a picture, or tweets at you, you can have Ifttt configured to send you a text message.  This can help you respond quickly to priority conversations with valued contacts and customers.

So whether your challenge is staying organized, responding quickly, effectively archiving materials, or just automating routine processes, Ifttt can get you headed in the right direction.

Find your tribe online

Recommended App: Rapportive

style="text-align: center;">class="border aligncenter" alt="Get Productive With Your Social Media Marketing Campaign" src="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/images/2013/0115-5.jpg" width="750px" height="217" />

Strategy: Maximize your productivity by spending your time cultivating the right relationships

Sometimes the hardest part of social media is reaching your audience, especially when they are active beyond the standard channels of Facebook and Twitter.  Two of the biggest myths I hear related to social media focus on the fact that it’s difficult to reach the right people, or that you need to pursue numbers just for the sake of getting your followers up.  While it certainly helps to have a robust following, it’s more relevant to href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/blog/socialmedia-marketing/simple-steps-to-get-ahead-of-your-competition-using-social-media-marketing/">focus on the quality and engagement of followers.

With rel="nofollow" href="http://rapportive.com/" target="_blank">Rapportive, there is now an app you can add on to Gmail that will show you where your contacts are active online.  This information can help you make important decisions about which channels are worth investing your time on in terms of social media, and ensure that you are maximizing the return on your investment. Simply install the app and it integrates seamlessly with the Gmail interface.

Here are three more ideas to connect with the right people online:

  1. Centralize your contacts on your computer in one place, like an outlook file.  Then ensure that you’ve connected with all your contacts on priority networks such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.  Each of these sites also allows you to check for contacts on other social networks. It can be time consuming to build these linkages, but they can give your social connections a tremendous bump.
  2. Spend time expanding your reach by participating in groups on LinkedIn, joining Fan Pages on Facebook, and answering questions on Quora on subjects related to your area of interest. By proactively reaching out, you’ll make new connections and quickly gauge the individuals that are interesting and influencers that are worth your time to follow.
  3. Develop a short list of individuals whose work you admire, and set out to build a relationship with them.  Let me be clear; I don’t mean stalking.  Read their blog posts and comment. Interact with them on social media. Share resources that might be useful on topics that are of interest. Consider pitching a guest post or creating value for them in some other way.  The goal is not to barrage them, but rather to make an investment in insightful and interesting interactions that can help you become a valued colleague and friend.

The time you spend on social media can help you reap great rewards in terms of your bottom line.  The key is to be strategic about how you invest your time, and use planning and tools to maximize the returns you get for the time you invest.

12 Actionable Advices To Improve Your Website Conversion Rate

alt="12 Actionable Advices To Improve Your Website Conversion Rate" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/0510-2-500x273_c.jpg" />

The first great myth of websites is if you build it, they will come. You put up your website and you waited. Eventually, you got past the birds chirping and figured out a strategy to get visitors to your site. These might include building a list, SEO, or using paid traffic through PPC.  But once they arrived, did they do what you expected? More to the point, did they buy?

Overcoming this second hurdle of improving your conversion rates can feel like one of the hardest to deal with when you are launching a web business. But I have some good news: encouraging people to convert may feel like a mystery now. But great thinkers across a range of disciplines from psychology to marketing to web design have been decoding what makes people take action.

id="attachment_1190" style="width: 760px" class="wp-caption aligncenter">class="size-full wp-image-1190 border" alt="About Conversion Rate" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/0510-2.jpg" width="750" srcset="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/0510-2.jpg 600w, http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/0510-2-300x164.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" />class="wp-caption-text">Conversion rate is how many of these guys on the left (the visitors) turn into those guys on the right (visitors who place an order or subscribe to your newsletter, or… etc) expressed in a percentile number.

What Rates Should I Shoot For?

An important question is whether or not the industry has a standard conversion rate. The answers are all over the place.  But according to a study released by Forrester Research, the average conversion rates for online shopping tend to be about 2.9%. It’s important to look at historical trends of conversion data on your own site, as well as what you can find in your specific industry.  It’s also helpful to evaluate what kind of conversion you’re looking for: you can expect a higher percentage of people to convert and sign up for our list, for example, than the percentage you can expect to buy something.

The following guide pulls on the best insights from across domains to help you increase your conversions and increase your profits today.  I’ve broken the following tips into sections based on the area of expertise they pull from. Depending on what you’re interested in, we’ll help point you in the right direction.

Copywriting: The Power of Words to Drive Conversion

Tip #1 – Improve your hook

You can’t get them to convert if you can’t capture their attention. Take a look at your headlines and your opening paragraphs. How compelling are they? Do they grab a reader’s attention? Do they invite the reader to keep reading? If the answer to any of these is no, take a close look at your product and see if it’s possible to find an embedded story, irresistible benefit, or title="How to write killer headlines" href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/blog/inbound-marketing/headlines-writing-guides/">killer headline you can lead with.

Tip #2 – Articulate your USP

If a customer reads your website, is it clear why your widget is different/better than the competition’s widget? It’s important that you be able to clearly and unambiguously state your differentiating factors and let that information shine through. Any potential customer should be easily able to share your USP with a friend: “You have to buy this company’s product because they are cheaper, better, and faster.”

Tip #3 – Feature your contact information

If your call to action asks your prospect to call, is your phone number in big letters across the top of the page (see example below)? If you need a viewer to click a button to order, is the button big, bold, in bright colors, and impossible to miss? Whatever step the potential customer needs to take in order to buy should be easy and obvious. Consider adding a button that says “Buy Now!” or “Click Here!”.

Koozai displays its call to action and contact number as big as the company logo.

Tip #4 – Call to action

We’re going to talk more about calls to action in just a bit. But just to confirm, your copy DOES feature a call to action, right?  You’d be surprised how many sites don’t, or how many business people think that a call to action is “implied.” Don’t leave what you need people to do to their imagination. Tell them very clearly, tell them often, and make it easy for them to execute.

Psychology: The Best Salesmanship Tricks to Persuade

Tip #5 – Simplify

It’s been shown definitively that if you give a browser too many options, links, or other potential distractions that it diffuses their focus and makes them less likely to actually convert and take the most critical action. You’ve seen the long, single page sales letters that don’t have any off page links. They are so common because they are effective. Can you remove some of the clutter on your website to help drive a viewer toward a singular focus?

Tip #6 – Social Proof

Only the most adventurous spirits want to lead the way and be the early adopters. Instead, when we make a purchase we want to know we’re in good company, joining an elite group of people getting results.  Do you have impressive numbers that you can share? How many people visit your site each month, follow you on Twitter or receive your newsletter?  Do you have great case studies and testimonials that you can share? You get bonus points if you can use real names and photographs, to lend authenticity.

class="size-full wp-image-1194 border" alt="Display Your Social Media Reach" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/0510-4.jpg" width="750" srcset="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/0510-4.jpg 600w, http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/0510-4-300x220.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" />

Never be too shy to show off some numbers. See how Net Tuts+ displays its social media followers on the first fold.

Tip #7 – Emphasize loss over gain

People are more afraid to lose what they already have than to not achieve something they see as only a dream. It’s the classic “I’d rather definitely hang onto my five dollars than potentially make a not guaranteed ten dollars” scenario.  The key is to show them what they stand to lose, as well as what they stand to gain, by purchasing your product.  If you can manage to do both, you’re definitely on the right track.

Tip #8 – Cultivate an air of mystery

If you can create a sense of exclusivity and mystery around your products, this helps raise people’s interest. Focus in on aspects of your story, your trade secrets, or the elite group customers will be joining, the knowledge that they will have access to, the networks that will open up. All of these are compelling motivators.

Tip #9 – Play with perceptions of value

When you sell a product for , it’s hard for me to evaluate whether that’s a good deal.  But if I find out that this is a one-time deal, and you usually charge , suddenly I feel like I’m getting a better deal.  If that purchase comes with 0 in bonuses, I also feel like I’ve just won the lottery.  This critical trick of showing me that your price is great relative to some other data points can control how I perceive your price.

Design: Using Layout, Form, and Artistry to Drive Action

class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-6574" alt="Plan and be flexible" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/rubberband-ball.jpg" width="750" height="482" srcset="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/rubberband-ball.jpg 750w, http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/rubberband-ball-300x192.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" />

Find areas of design frustration: When you crafted your website, I bet you went for the sexiest, sleekest, most beautiful design you could afford. The question is: does your design work for your customers? Use a tool like Crazy Egg (title="Crazy Egg" href="http://www.crazyegg.com/" target="_blank">www.crazyegg.com) to track the movements of your visitors. Once you see where the “hot spots” of activities are, you can use that information to create a focus on your core conversion.

Tip #10 – Survey your customers

This one sounds so easy. So why is it that so few of us do it?  Reach out to your customers and find out what they really need. It could be that a different set of products would increase your conversions, or presented differently.

Do not assume. style="line-height: 1.5em;">A/B test everything. If you need ideas on how to start, here are href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/blog/inbound-marketing/boost-conversion-rates/">20 conversion case studies for your reference.

Tip #11 – Remarket

Remarketing is a cool technique that feels a little bit Big Brother, but can make a huge difference in both your sales and your understanding of your customers’ behavior. Use remarketing to reach out to people that abandoned at some point in the process, and find out why. For example, did someone add a product to their cart but not finish the check-out.  Find out why.  Did they find a better deal elsewhere? Did you not take their preferred method of payment? Was your check-out process too complicated? Any of these can be easily remedied once you know what the problem is.

Tip #12 – Add video

Video appears in 70% of the top 100% of Google results, and visitors are reportedly 64 – 85% more likely to purchase after watching a product video.  A simple solution is to add a product information or sales video to your page. It doesn’t have to be high production value; you talking to your camera works just as well!

Whether you’re pulling from copywriting, psychology, or design, there are techniques that can dramatically improve your conversions.

How to Improve Your Facebook News Feed Performance

alt="How to Improve Your Facebook News Feed Performance" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/facebook--500x302_c.jpg" />

Getting into a News Feed on Facebook means that your page is visible to someone directly. When they log onto their Facebook page, your post sitting there on their screen is what every social media marketer is after in the long run. Facebook’s updates with the News Feed makes it easier to be seen, but there’s still a lot of work that needs to be done.

If you’re a social media marketer looking for ways to href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/blog/featured-articles/social-media-marketing-productive-tools/">improve the overall performance of your campaign, here are some tips to help you boost the number of News Feeds you land in with your content.

class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-9598" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/facebook-.jpg" alt="facebook" width="750" height="454" srcset="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/facebook-.jpg 750w, http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/facebook--300x181.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" />

Vital Tips for Improving Facebook’s News Feed

1: Target Online Fans

The best way to be seen by someone in their News Feed is to be seen quickly. In other words, your best bet is to send out a piece of content when the highest number of your fans are online. The first step here is to figure out when the biggest bulk of your fans are online. It won’t all be in the same minute, or perhaps even in the same hour, but what you want here is a time frame to release content.

Figure out when your fans are logging on and then submit your content. This step alone doesn’t help improve the number of News Feeds you will be visible in, but it does ensure that more of your fans will see your content.

2: Post Regularly

One of the best ways to improve the performance of your campaign is to release content regularly. Using the above tip as a guide on what time of day to post, you should try to release something every day.

You have to prepare for the fact that even some fans who see your content won’t actually engage with it. However, regular postings give you the best chance at earning higher engagement numbers.

3: Increase Your Viral Reach

Increasing your viral reach is a great way to show up in more News Feeds and to attract many more fans. One way you can do this is to actually allow your fans to post updates on your page. It’s a win-win advertising situation for both parties. For you specifically, a lot more Facebook users become familiar with your page.

Don’t worry about people spamming you here. Facebook allows you to configure your page so that certain keywords and profanity are blocked. Besides, you wouldn’t offer this feature to anyone; you would make sure there’s some level of trust there.

4: Hold a Comment Contest

The more comments you’re able to get on any post, the better it is for your overall News Feed performance. More engagement means your page is more heavily weighted. Not only will you appear in more News Feeds, but your messages will stay in a little longer.

You can get a lot of comments on a post by holding a simple contest and offering a simple prize. For instance, you can give out a free product to the person who comes up with the best caption for a photo. This could lead to a flood of comments, which in turn does your campaign a lot of good.

5: Tag People

Another great way to boost your performance is to tag people inside of a comment. As a workaround to Facebook’s rules about pages not being able to tag, you just have to wait until a user leaves a comment on an update. If you move in and comment on that same update, viola, you can tag that person.

When the tagged party revisits the material, it becomes public on their profile page, which should allow your page to pick up some viral steam by association. It’s not a tip that’s going to instantly bring you a ton of traffic, but it is a very easy way to increase performance.

6: Reply to People

With this tip, you’re looking to capitalize on the goodwill of other brands on Facebook. For instance, if you see a brand you like or a campaign you admire, Like it, comment on it, and send some type of positive shout-out. There’s an unwritten rule on the Internet (that most people follow, at least), and it’s quite simple: If someone sings your praises, return the song.

Replying to people in this fashion should prompt them to return the favor, and every little bit of positive engagement you receive is going to help your campaign in the long haul.

7: Pay for Advertising

The trouble with all the many organic tips above isn’t that they don’t work; they certainly do. What seems to be the issue here is that there’s only so far you can go organically. Eventually you’re going to have to spend on Facebook if you want to make a bigger splash. And one of the best ways to spend is on a format like a Promoted Post.

Using a great third-party ad management app, you can promote a post that was already popular, breathing new life into it and ensuring that it reaches even more News Feeds. The end results should be a big boost in your fans, your traffic, and in your News Feed performance.

8: Advertise Outside of Facebook

Another solid way to up your Facebook performance actually takes place offsite. With this tip, you want to link your latest post on another popular forum. For instance, you can link it on Pinterest, Instagram or send it in a tweet.

Increased traffic signals to Facebook that your material is worth keeping around, and when used in conjunction with some of the other tips listed here, your post is going to linger around News Feeds for longer, eventually bringing more people to engage with your page.

Building up your News Feed performance is a process. It’s also very cyclical in a sense. Basically, you’re attempting to work on your overall engagement, which brings in more fans, allows you to touch more News Feeds, and allows your material to stay in News Feeds for longer.

Top Ways Infographics Can Increase Site Traffic and Improve Appearance

class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-9673" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/infographic-stats.jpg" alt="infographic stats" width="750" height="324" srcset="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/infographic-stats.jpg 750w, http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/infographic-stats-300x129.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" />

The Internet is a visual platform, so it only makes sense that infographics have the ability to reach millions of people and keep them engaged. According to href="http://www.bell-pottinger.com/newsroom/2014/01/2014-digital-stats">Bell Pottinger, a marketing company, 2013 saw a 55% increase in business budgets for digital items like infographics.

In an infographic about infographics, href="http://unbounce.com/content-marketing/why-do-infographics-make-great-marketing-tools/">Unbounce states that the number of people searching for infographics has seen an 800% increase in the last two years. With statistics like that, it’s hard to deny that data visualizations in the form of infographics is a good marketing tool for websites.

Draw New Visitors

id="attachment_9672" style="width: 760px" class="wp-caption aligncenter">class="size-full wp-image-9672" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/infographic-smm.jpg" alt="Using Infographic to draws more tweets and new visitors" width="750" height="264" srcset="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/infographic-smm.jpg 750w, http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/infographic-smm-300x105.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" />class="wp-caption-text">Using Infographic to draws more tweets and new visitors

According to an href="http://www.topmarketingschools.net/state-of-infographics/">infographic by Top Marketing Schools, a single infographic has the potential to reach as many as 15 million Internet users. Find a topic that people are interested in that ties to the niche topic of your site and you are almost certain to gain more than a few new site visitors.

Adding infographics draws new site visitors in a couple of ways.

  • Web Searches: Internet users may be doing research on the topic your infographic is on. If you are the only site to have an infographic on why blueberries make you smarter, then you’ll get the traffic from anyone searching for an infographic on that topic. Those who are searching specifically for images may come across your infographic as well.
  • Social Media: The infographic from Top Marketing Schools indicating that a traditional post gets about 75 tweets, while an infographic gets almost 600. Since people are so much more likely to share your infographic on Twitter than a simple post, your potential to reach new visitors via social media is enormous.

Keep Visitors

href="http://www.nngroup.com/articles/how-long-do-users-stay-on-web-pages/">Nielson/Norman Group estimates that the average page visit lasts under a minute. Unless you grab the reader’s interest, she will glance over your page and move on to the next site.

Site visitors are in the habit of scrolling for information and news. This is another reason why infographics work so well to grab the reader’s interest. A visual representation of an interesting fact is a faster way to present information than paragraphs of text. Readers can skim your infographic quickly, absorb the information needed and will stay a bit longer to check out what else you have to offer, or may bookmark your site for later use.

However, another thing to keep in mind is that while infographics add value, heavy images that take a long time to load may serve to drive visitors away. Research by Pew Internet estimates that the average site visitor expects a page to load in under three seconds. The faster your site loads, the better your conversion rates will be.

It is quite the balancing act to make sure that your site offers a visually rich experience while still loading lightning fast. The best way to accomplish this is with fast servers and optimized images. You’ll notice on our href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/hosting-reviews/" target="_blank">hosting reviews page, that we list A2 as one of the fastest hosting companies. You can read complete reviews on a wide variety of web hosts and see which one best meets your need for speed and other features.

Social Media Reach

href="http://www.pewinternet.org/fact-sheets/social-networking-fact-sheet/">Pew Research Internet Project estimates that as of September, 2013 about 73 percent of adults who use the Internet are on social media sites, which are popular venues for sharing infographics. If you can make your infographic interactive, with video or clickable links, then people are even more likely to engage and share your graphic with others. Make sure:

  • The infographic has an embed code so others can easily add it to their sites.
  • It has your website address on the graphic.
  • The name of your company is in bold letters.
  • If you have the technical know how or can hire someone who does, you may also want to make easy share links for social media sites like Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest.

Keep in mind that people are more likely to share an infographic via e-mail or private message as well. The potential to reach new site visitors with your infographic may be even larger than expected. Add to the examples above the fact that infographics are used in business and school presentations to illustrate a point and you have reached even more people than you ever thought possible.

href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/blog/site-updates/top-ways-infographics-can-increase-site-traffic-and-improve-appearance/attachment/visually-wired/" rel="attachment wp-att-9630">class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-9630" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/visually-wired.png" alt="infographic screen shot" width="700" height="298" srcset="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/visually-wired.png 700w, http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/visually-wired-300x127.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" />

Add Authority

Most people are visual learners. href="http://neomam.com/interactive/13reasons/" target="_blank">NeoMam has compiled research from sources such as Google Trends, Nielson and Pearson that suggests 70 percent of sensory receptors are located in the eyes and people can take in and comprehend a visual scene in just under 1/10th of a second.

People tend to believe what they see because they comprehend it better. Doing research and backing it up in your infographic can add authority to your brand. Be sure to:

  • Offer solid statistics
  • Add well-respected resources at the bottom of the infographic
  • Add graphs and charts that show those statistics in a visual way

When you combine the visual senses with interactive features, such as the NeoMam infographic these statistics came from, you not only capture your reader’s interest but you engage it.

What do you notice more? Do you notice a plain graphic on the page or one that moves, flashes or perhaps starts a video?

Stickier Website

id="attachment_9623" style="width: 310px" class="wp-caption alignright">href="http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/blog/site-updates/top-ways-infographics-can-increase-site-traffic-and-improve-appearance/attachment/color-wheel/" rel="attachment wp-att-9623">class="size-medium wp-image-9623" src="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/color-wheel-300x300.jpg" alt="color wheel" width="300" height="300" srcset="http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/color-wheel-300x300.jpg 300w, http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/color-wheel-150x150.jpg 150w, http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/color-wheel-130x130.jpg 130w, http://whsr.webrevenueinc1.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/color-wheel.jpg 500w" sizes="(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" />class="wp-caption-text">href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/22090181@N08/3093916722/">Ernesto Lago

A sticky website is one that every website owner strives for and would never consider taking “soap and water” to. A sticky site captures your visitors and makes them want to hang around for a while and come back time and time again. In addition to speaking to people on a visual level and being time effective, infographics help engage the reader.

In href="http://www.office.xerox.com/latest/COLFS-02UA.PDF">The Persausive Properties of Color, Xerox found that a simple technique such as adding a colored box behind text makes readers desire to read that text by as much as 80 percent more. Add color with:

  • Colored arrows
  • Bold, large text
  • Encapsulated text

Experiment by adding one of these elements at a time and see how your conversion rates change.

Persuade Visitors to Your Way of Thinking

Would you like to persuade visitors about a trend or statistic? The href="http://www.hp.com/large/ipg/assets/bus-solutions/power-of-visual-communication.pdf">Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania, found that only 50 percent of an audience was persuaded with a presentation that was verbal only, while 67 percent were persauded by a presentation that offered verbal and visual features. In addition:

  • Visual graphics helped people make their decision immediately following the presentation.
  • Meeting times were reduced because information was presented faster and people understood it better with data visualizations, which meant less question/answer time.

Think about meetings you’d attending in the past. Who was more convincing? The person with visual aids and a quick, to the point presentation? Of course that person is more convincing than one who stumbles around the topic, offers no real proof and lectures at you for hours on end (usually in a monotone voice).

Adding Fresh, Trending Info

Infographics are a different way to add fresh info that is trending. Right now, Google’s algorithms tend to index infographics quickly, which can help with your page rank. However, Google is always tweaking its algorithm, so your best course of action is to present top-notch information in a way that engages your readers. Infographics accomplish that and more.
